I remember that somebody hit a home run earlier in the game and after he came up next he took strike one. I told my wife and our friends that he was going down on the next pitch.

    And he did.

They looked at me like I was some kind of genius, but it was just what these guys would do. I couldn't believe that they could watch that much baseball and not know that was coming. Maybe it was because only I played the game. The other male in the group was a basketball player and played for the Evansville Purple Hearts after the plane crash and not a baseball player.

Wonder what those Mets thought after trading Tom Terrific in 1977 for Pat Zachry—

You know, there’s a show case held annually in Wilmington, NC called “The East Coast Professional Baseball Showcase” and players have to be asked by MLB organizations to participate—The NY Mets had Alan on their team the summer before his HS senior year.

They treated those players first class across the board. It was a great weekend.

The first time I pitched I came into the game in relief was with one out in the top of the first inning already down by 17. It was Little League. We lost, but I stemmed the flow (I think I went the distance and gave up two runs the rest of the way) and we scored a bunch (double digits), but not enough. I was playing third when I was called in. I was happy to not be playing third anymore because third base did not match my skill set except for being able to throw all the way to first base accurately. After this I was a starting pitcher and soon after I was playing left field on days that I couldn't pitch and no longer had to man the hot corner.

The only good play I ever made at third base that year was to tag a base runner twice. During our first ever practice our coach said to always tag the runner twice and I remembered that. He never said it again. In a game a runner advanced to third and I tagged him once and he was safe, but he momentarily lifted his foot and I tagged him again and he was called out. My coach almost fell over in the dugout. I think that I made his season with that one play.

No it wasn't. The parents really screwed it up. Even back then they were taking the fun out of it. But not my dad. He showed up at a couple of games when I was pitching after an inning or two and left early. He never said anything about watching me pitch and because he didn't say anything I never said that I saw him there.

After one year of Little League I went back to the local park league that had players just as good, but the only parents there were the coaches. It was more fun, but had other issues.

I was a half year behind the kids that lost to Taiwan from Roseland in Chicago so Little League was insane. Some of the kids I went to school with played on that team.

If they had some of the kids I played with in the park league they might have won it.
