Vanderbilt defeated Michigan to win the College World Series finals, clinching the championship with an 8-2 victory in Game 3. The Commodores went 10-2 in the NCAA Tournament, sweeping through the Nashville Regional, beating Duke in the Nashville Super Regional and then going 5-1 in Omaha. Vanderbilt began the year ranked No. 1 in the Preseason Top 25. It becomes the first team to be ranked No. 1 in both the Preseason and Final Top 25 since 1996, when Louisiana State did so. While Vanderbilt began the year at No. 1, UCLA spent most of the season in the top spot, holding it for 11 straight weeks going into the NCAA Tournament.
