Aggies Open SEC Tournament Play Tuesday Morning vs. Florida
    Aggie Sports
    COLLEGE STATION, Texas –
The No. 19 Texas A&M Aggies enter the 2019 SEC Baseball Tournament (May 21-26) in Hoover, Alabama as the No. 6 seed, drawing No. 11-seed Florida as their first round opponent. The Aggies are looking for their second SEC Tournament title to go along with their 2016 crown.

Tuesday's action is an elimination round with the winners advancing to a double-elimination portion that begins Wednesday. The winner of the Texas A&M-Florida contest faces No. 3-seed Georgia in Wednesday's first game.

The Aggies and Gators did not meet during the 2019 regular-season. They have met twice at the SEC Tournament with Texas A&M prevailing both times. In 2013, the Maroon & White earned a first-round victory over Florida, 6-3, behind a complete-game effort by Daniel Mengden and four RBI from Hunter Melton. The teams faced off in the 2016 championship game with the Aggies notching a 12-5 victory behind a five-RBI day from J.B. Moss and three-RBI effort by Nick Banks, to take the title.

Heat won’t favor either team. A&M is no stranger to heat.

Win and we are in. The postseason is here. If Mace can't go based on rest, it will most likely be Crisp.

    4.5 days not enough?

60-70 pitches and then Nolan but guarantee ya Mace wants to be out there.

Anybody have thoughts on whether or not we see Lacey? This is the key, as if he is pitching we will have to bunt for sacs and hits. Lacey is nasty and we can’t give away at bats.

    Anyone on Lacey?

    Gonna answer my own question

Childress says Lacey is on mound for game 1. Tell y’all this, we don’t come out ready to go with a game plan and we’ll encounter big problems.

Calilao and Jud cannot give at bats away. Young will have to bunt. Without all 9 truly battling at the plate we will be a quick exit. Hoping Sully truly has that small ball mentality and is preaching not giving at bats away.

This game favors AM with a well rested all conference pitcher.

We can do it but can’t start slow.

Wonder if Blue will be tight w Lacy after how he openly questions Broussard (HP ump that tossed him). These guys usually support each other ( remember After Dalton’s ejection and how Zone changed).

Lacey can pitch but we can really rake.

True. No giveaways and we win.

Cliche but true...who wants it more, who’ll be more focused, will our freshman give away at bats?

Gotta battle at the plate. Gotta bunt sometimes too.

Here is what it comes down to on our 4 freshmen. Contribute one positive thing per game. Period. If they have an off game with the bat, take away a run somehow. If they find a way on base, find a way to gain an extra 90 feet somewhere. If they commit an error, find a way to score or drive in a run.

There will be pressure. They will feel it but if they simply contribute one positive aspect of the game that is 4 impact plays for us. That's what big games boil down to. Can each guy impact the game positively for his team? If so I like our chances. It can be simple, Kendrick driving in a run. Cory diving and taking away a hit. JY stealing a bag. Jud tracking one down in the gap. If these guys do that each game we will win or lose based on vets and pitching.

Pitching has stepped up in a big way and we need them to continue to do so!

Blah, Blah, Blah JUST WIN! The time for talking is over!

We ran into the most problems with errors. I'm glad we overcame them this time, but can't keep that part going. Defense is so important in these elimination games. Go Gators!

It's a shame that FSU at #50 in the RPI is almost a lock and we have 2 SEC teams at #25 and #26 that are far from it. I think there are 10 SEC spots and the last one goes to Florida or Missouri. If both win or lose, then I believe we get it. If Florida loses, but Missouri wins, they steal our bid. It will take both teams winning 2-3 games each for them to put both of us in. I do feel if our results are the same, however, we get the bid over them for 3 reasons. 1) There are looming NCAA suspensions for Missouri. 2) We have the name, 3) Uh, we swept them on the road.

I think we will need a couple of key hits. Even if our pitching is as good as last weekend I think we will need a few more runs. Texas A&M has better offense than Mizzou. We will need to score more runs to win tomorrow. I agree that everyone will need to contribute. Everyone will get 3 or 4 chances at the plate to change the game. Other than making errors, it is hard to make a game changing in the field. Lets make sure we battle on every AB!! We can beat anyone if we play a complete game!!

(Found this little selection committee quote from last season - as unfair as it may be, that conference record may be tough to overcome. One would hope they would look at the whole picture, including Florida's history, but this is the NCAA we are talking about. If we can win a couple in Hoover at least we would be ending the season trending in the right direction (and be more comparable to Texas A&M last year instead of Kentucky) which might save us in spite of a sub-.500 conference mark) and there is also the possibility that there aren't as many worthy "bubble" teams this year - at least that's the hope:

"I think anybody that follows college baseball recognizes Kentucky has a great club," Ray Tanner, South Carolina's athletics director and the chair of the tournament selection committee, said on the ESPNU selection show. "But there are some metrics we look at in the selection room and one is sub-.500 against conference competition. There’s only one team in the field that was sub-.500 against conference competition. It was a glaring weakness against Kentucky.

"They were tied for the 10 seed going into SEC Tournament, four games under .500. Unfortunately, they lost their opener, made them five games under. They have a tremendous team, but that is a trend we’re looking at. You will notice a team like Northeastern: Won their regular season, they played for the conference championship in their tournament."
