Streaky at best—maybe our defensive play will inspire our hitters!

Question for the board, would Sully put McConnell batting first to help Langworthy get more opportunity for hits if a runner is on first? Obviously Langworthy became our number 1 last year and really excelled as the season went on after a slow start. As is, Langworthy isn't helping McConnell very much.

McConnell was seeing it well over the course of the weekend—could be worth a look-see. Whatever it takes to get Lang going—

Let’s not forget he should be on the mound for his high school team right now (like Fabian). For him to be the designated closer this early is a little scary, but what a statement for his ability not just for the future, but right now.
I’d love to hear O’Sullivan’s thoughts on him; have I missed it?

Yep, don't disagree with any of that, just noting what I saw.
Kind of surprised no Hunter McMullen yet, but assume we see him this week unless I missed an injury or something.

A tweet from Florida Gators Baseball says, "For those asking, Blake will be fine. Not expected to be a long-term issue. Coach said hopefully he'll be back next weekend for Miami."

Thats good news. He looked like he was in a lot of pain when they were getting him up and off the field. I was worried something was separated or broken.

I was impressed by what I saw of Pena. Great to hear that Reese is going to be okay. Do we know who the midweek starters are going to be yet?

Just saw where McMullen is scheduled to start vs usf, so I guess that answers that.

74, I love your pitching evaluations.

Please give us your assessment of Ruth's 2 inning performance including the quality/use of his group of pitches.

    This amateur was impressed.

    5220—

I’m sure a lot of my desire to see our “TJ” guys do well is because of what I watched Alan go through with his—it takes fortitude and a great love for the game to run through that gauntlet—

I thought Ruth showed not only a live arm but a ton of upside potential—he has a loose arm, he’s tall enough to create that good downward tilt, his leg drive was good—

I would like to see him drive down through his pitches better—that upright finish does two things—it can create high/arm side misses (elevating pitch counts) and it puts more strain on his shoulder as he cuts off his follow-through. The perfect follow-through displaces all that torque into his back and legs—(look at any picture of Brady Singer’s follow-through/finish)

Looking forward to seeing Ruth go again—this week end should have been a good confidence builder for him—

Saw your post and it made me think of post game pics UF posted. Always taught "flat back" finish, which is why the Ruth pic stuck out. image.jpeg

That is the classic finish and he did get there some which was great to see—just like to see this pitch to pitch so that he can recognize himself when he was a click off it makes for much easier adjustments—

During Spring scrimmages H McMullen was one of 4 guys the coaches stretched out to 4-5 innings, indicating was going to get first shot at the weekday #4 starter. Looks like that is playing out. Not sure who would start Wednesday, perhaps Johnny whole-staff? We seem to have lot of options of guys who threw 1 inn, but also have quality guys who haven't thrown a single inning, including Devin Hemenway, and - if I remember correctly - both All-American FR David Luethje and FR Nick Pogue. Embarrassment of riches.

This was my biggest position question coming in to the season: Who was #2 catcher? Really couldn't tell from reps given between Miozzi and Greenfield in Spring. From the way Miozzi played Sun and Smith played Fri, I may have been asking the wrong question. We need Smith's bat in the lineup and you have Nelly in ink at DH. Do we see Smith at 2B a little?
