I guess if he doesn't like his draft spot, then he'll go ahead and transfer.

 

Maybe both he and Stanford's softball ace pitcher, Alana Vawter, can both come to Gainesville!!

 

I agree 100% with you on Colby Halter. I have liked his intensity level and style of play ever since he came to UF. I have more than once stated that he’s a baller. IMHO he leaves it all on the field—every day.
He will be a great coach one day too. He will never ask more of his players than he will ask of himself I truly believe.

I feel like at this point our future at SS is going to depend on who earns it or TBA throughout fall ball and early spring. It will be interesting to follow.

 

Love halter always has that intense look and plays with it. Love to see him come back next year. That extra year sure benefitted Josh.

 

Anybody know if Amick ended up following through with a visit to the good guys? UTn got another stud infielder in the portal so I thought that might be a good sign

 

Is it just me or are we lagging behind others in leveraging the portal so far? It seems other SEC schools (UTn, at least) are nabbing top picks while we are biding our time. Possibly going deeper/ deepest into the tourney distracted us vs. others but I’d think it would help in the long run.

I’ve not paid much attention to this in the past so maybe I’m showing my ignorance. School me!

 

He did make the visit to UF and word is it went well, but the feeling by many is Tennessee is where he may end up. Nobody knows for sure, but, I don't think any promises were made to gift him 3b at Uf.

 

We seem to be doing ok - picked up a top pitcher, top position player and another option at catcher. Couple big fish still out there and if we can get one of them it will be a really really good portal haul.

 

Yep, we landed guys while we were still playing and so they got overshadowed.

 

In the days before scholarship limits and player-friendly transfer rules, Bear Bryant used to bring in 150 or more football recruits. Partly to be able to pick the best of the group to play, but also to prevent them from playing at opponents' programs. TN, in particular, seems to have adopted a modern version of that approach.

The surplus of older guys available because of the scewy lost season and the reduced MLB draft had an effect on transfers that may or may not continue.

Sully was mistaken that his traditional approach of focusing on top caliber freshman recruits made portal recruiting unnecessary, but in the long run, top level recruiting for the Gators will reinforce their advantages over programs like TN that don't recruit HS players as well.

Other than the value of adding experienced leaders, like Riopelle, and star short timers, like Waldrep, it is not yet clear that, under more normal conditions, bringing in a crowd of transfers is better than keeping and developing frosh recruits.

None of the guys who have left UF have been as successful as the best of the guys who transferred in. Guscette surely is the player with the best success elsewhere, but he did not succeed as well as either Riopelle or Heyman, so UF was ok without him.

 

He won't end up at UT.
