Gators Score 18 Runs in Sunday Exhibition
    Daniel AppleUF
Florida faced USF on Sunday afternoon and totaled 18 runs in 12 innings during their second and final exhibition of the fall season.
    Sunday, November 10, 2019
In the first of two six-inning games, the Gators beat the Bulls 10-2 behind five RBI from senior Kirby McMullen. In the second game, the two teams were tied at eight when the game ended after six innings.
On the day, Florida used 15 pitchers and put up seven scoreless frames in 12 innings. UF limited the Bulls to just three hits in the first six innings, but USF racked up eight runs on 10 hits in the second game.

At the plate, the Gators went 19-for-49 (.388) with four home runs and seven extra-base hits. Senior Austin Langworthy and freshman Nathan Hickey each had three hits and a pair of RBI.
McMullen's five RBI came on two home runs in his first two at bats. Sophomore Jud Fabian and senior Nick Blasucci also hit home runs.

Jack Leftwich and Nick Pogue each had a pair of strikeouts in a scoreless inningof work. Veterans Tommy Mace and Jordan Butler also pitched scoreless frames. Freshman left-hander Hunter Barco retired all three batters he faced while fellow newcomer Brandon Sproat also worked a scoreless inning.
Florida continues fall practices this week. The Gators will conclude fall ball with their annual Orange & Blue Series November 19-21.

Overall it was good to see the Gators play someone other than themselves and be able to compare how we are progressing. I didn't get there until the 2 inning because of basketball and then left mid way in the second game. I thought our pitchers did much better than USF. Many times USF had control issues where we kept them off balance at the plate other than a few mistakes. Many of our pitchers did well such as Barco, Pogue, Mace and Sproat. Sproat was up to 96-97 mph on every pitch. Pogue really seemed to have good movement on his breaking ball for strikes. Barco was Barco and looks to be a starter somewhere in this schedule. Remains to be seen if its Sundays or Wednesdays.
My main point from the first game was the Ocala Connection showed up today! Kirby and Jud took control of that one. Way to go boys! We had Brady Smith at 3rd and Rivera at SS. Will that be the starters? Hhmmm Blasucci had something to say about that at the plate today. Last question, where was Jacob Young today? I never saw him.

Freshman Brandon Sprout up to 96-97 consistently? Wow!

There's a great story. Sprout developed very suddenly as a junior and by his senior year was hitting 93 at a spindly 6-2 165 making him very projectable to the pros and of course us.

He was drafted in the seventh round and turned the pros down saying he wanted the college experience.

One who will fascinating to watch as he develops and gets stronger.

I heard he has a broken hamate from an ab during a scrimmage about a week ago, from what was said several of the players have had the same issue and have come back pretty quickly with no bad results #44 is an example

We seem to have had more than our share of hamate injuries. Nonetheless, if it is going to happen this is about as good a time as any. He should be 100% by January.

He did have a right hand injury so it was possibly a hamate as well.

I bet @Gatorgal04 had a hamate injury in her past to make her so good at what she does.

I do not think Langworthy is getting enough credit for what he is bringing back. You can see this group having a looseness that was lacking last year. I think it starts with Lang and was seen on his "mic'd up video" from the game against Ga. He has been battle tested and the type of leader this team needs. Yes I know there are other seniors that can lead but I think 44 brings a demeanor unlike anyone else to that spot and I think it is showing this fall.

Could not agree more #44 is a down in the dirt ball player, not so vocal but sets a terrific example especially on a team with a ton of underclassmen, just loves playing ball, reminds me of #27.

I’ve seen a lot of fall ball, but still look at #27 and think it’s Nelly. I’m sure I’ll do the same next year if someone else is wearing #44.
Team Captain(s) haven’t been announced yet. But my suspicion is we’ll have #44 and #52 as co-captains.
