Just a guess, but 2018 numbers give a hint...
Brady Smith hit .278 in conference play (.352 + .328) (slg + obp)
Cal Greenfield hit .154 in conference play (.385 + .214)
I believe Brady Smith is believed to be more of an offensive boost that we need. His hitting is constantly commended.
I think we might struggle on Friday nights. It's a young team though, this isn't the same squad we'll see at the end of the year.
Agree but we lost a tremendous amount of fire power from last year, superstars. Gonna be really hard to come remotely close to replacing that let alone the pitching.
I remember talking to a Gator baseball player around 1971/2 who told me that if you have a bad game you must take what you can learn from it and then put it out of your mind completely.
As a mere fan I am going to try to do the same.
Bring on North Florida tomorrow!
darn it all, I expected us to go undefeated at least til conference and then sweep our home series and win at least 2 of 3 on the road... j/k Sully said he wanted this team on the road early to get them used to the routine, I'll look at this game as step one in a long road
It is a midweek game.
We haven't won a midweek game all year.
Was at the game, the only positives i saw were-
Alinitoff(sp?) in relief
Chairback seats (usf has a nice little stadium),
I'm sure everyone saw all the negatives. Reminded me a bit of the loss last year vs canes. Team can't hit those 72 mph breaking balls.
We better sweep the Canes to help us(especially me) forget about this game.
Well, we got that first stinker out of the way.
I would not want to be on that bus ride back to UF. I am sure they will receive plenty of “encouragement” to regroup and go rack up some more W’s on the rest of the schedule!
Getting humbled periodically can pay dividends. Just don’t need that character-building too often!
That is probably true paidin full but I’m your asshole!
WES it is very important that we have a guy that can catch. Way more important than offensive numbers.
So this catcher position...it's important?
Depends————on if you want to win or not...
I was there last night. The hitting was not great but not as bad as it sounds as either. We hit some balls on the nose but at guys. I know Acton Flew out to deep center and hit a lined shot at the left fielder. Wil hit one to the track in deep center. Their yard is like ours, 400 to center and he probably hit it 390. There were a few sharp ground balls we hit right at guys as well.
Not trying to be the optimist of the group but we started 4 freshman on the road for the first time. I am sure there were some jitters just like we had opening night at home. The good news is that it is over and I cannot use this excuse anymore!
I see the rest of the infield as pretty solid, maybe not yet spectacular but more than adequate, Sully may be thinking that Brady's bat is more important than a PB here and there but he has to do better than we have seen or it will time for a change, it would not surprise me in the least if Miozzi catches tonight against UNF or perhaps Greenfield
a few weeks ago Sully talked about the importance of getting this young team on the road so they could get used to a different routine and establish a road mentality, last night was step one on that part of the journey
