Probably rain delayed start and being relegated to ESPNU, but as long as the Gators win I don't care.
Forgot to post this before Game 1. I watched SC highlights from their regional and it was obvious they are a fastball hitting team. We saw that again tonight early on until Sproat started mixing it up with lots more off speed stuff. Then the shut down began until Neely was up challenging them with fast balls late. All that to say I'm really looking forward to Waldrep tomorrow with his assortment of pitches. If he can control his breaking balls and his sinker it will be a long day for SC. SC has their best arm up tomorrow in Mahoney who usually goes 5 to 7 innings. So look for a pitchers duel early on. Also Petry cannot hit a curve ball. Saw him swing over it again and again in the regional highlights. That will be Waldrep's strikeout opportunity if he is on with the sinker. Another advantage for us is SC lacks LHP. Hopefully most of our bats stay hot and Langford gets in on the action as well. Schiekofer might be better sitting it out and letting Robertson have at it as well.
Let’s go Gators!!!!! Big day in Gator Nation! I like the adjustment defensively with Wyatt in left and Robertson in center. SC gonna give us everything they’ve got. We have to be aggressive, smart, and mentally tough!!! #WorkEmSilly
The Florida Gators Men’s Team Wins the Program’s 14th National Title - Florida Gators Because National Championships, Gator champions, actually deserve to be celebrated. Go Gators!
Agreed. It seems like the SEC often made these weather accomodations, but not sure that the NCAA will
This is key...who wants it more? I truly believe we want this SR more than does South Carolina. It means something to wear this Florida Baseball Jersey, as BT stated this season. It's Great To Be A Florida Gator!!
Got lots of faith in Vernon T Waldrip today. He will not leave us in constant sorrow. I’ll be there. Again.
Great observations, Matherly87. One of the highlight posts on Neely showed a 97 MPH fast ball pitch for a strike. I had no idea he could toss it that fast.
Someone earlier mentioned that Waldrep needs to pitch to contact. His stuff is that good, but even if he strikes out the side in each of the first four innings, his pitch count gets too large to go much beyond five.
I hope he understands that USCe feasts on fastballs, especially early in the game. Sproat found out the hard way.
Everything that was squared up was center cut in the heart. Be smart, set up everything you do and we win.
^^^^ Looks like a 1:00-2:00pm start would avoid the issue. I know, I know, common sense has nothing to do with the NCAA’s decision making process.
Yup, said it last week. Induce bad swings but pitch to contact. 7/8 pitch at bats no good. SC are big game fastball hunters. Needs to establish off speed stuff early. Hoping splitter is on. Early in counts, non strike splitters will still induce swings due to their fastball hunting philosophy.
When Waldrep and Mahoney faced off 4/21 it was SC scoring 2 in the 1st and 3 in the 2nd for a 5-2 win with Waldrep throwing 6 innings……sound familiar to last night with the cocks scoring coming in the 1st two innings? I did not watch many regular season games but I imagine our pitchers threw predominantly fastballs thru the first time in the order then started mixing up pitches the next time thru the order. Every game we have played them this year they have scored in the 1st two innings then for the most part they were held in check the rest of the game. Maybe time to mix up the pitches from the get go. Mahoney went five against us giving up 5 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks and 3 K’s. Jac hit the 1st inning HR off him and Heyman had 3 hits that game.
Accuweather Gainesville Doppler Radar shows really clean radar at 12:15. Most of us look at the hourly % on a non Doppler view. Never much liked thr “32% at 5:00”. Like watching Doppler. If radar still shows clean ( sure it won’t) we’ve got a great shot at starting on time, as we all know many storms take some time to build. All that being said makes no sense not to play this game at 1 or 2:00.
