Is everyone just writing Allan off b/c the Mets appear to have a strategy in place? Has he indicated he is inclined to sign with them?

Ocala’s Owens has decision: Florida or Atlanta Braves

    By John Patton, Correspondent
OCALA — On July 21, 2018 Tyler Owens made the biggest decision of his young life when he announced he had committed to play baseball for Florida.

Ten-and-a-half months later, the recently graduated right-handed pitcher from Trinity Catholic was given another choice: double down and attend UF or sign a contract with the Atlanta Braves, who selected him in the 13th round (397th overall) of the Major League Baseball draft on Wednesday.

“I’m extremely excited about being picked up by the Braves!” Owens wrote in a direct message to the Star-Banner, adding that he will have more to say after undergoing a physical with Atlanta next week.
The Braves will retain the rights to negotiate with Owens until 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 15 or until he enters UF on a full-time basis, according to rules provided by Major League Baseball. If he ends up at Florida, Owens would then be ineligible to be drafted again for three seasons, unless he were to transfer to a junior college and then could be selected again after one season.

    Baseball Sentinel all-area teams
Seminole’s Allan did everything very well
Mets draft choice clutch at plate, dominant on hill
    By J.C. Carnahan Sentinel
Seminole High right-handed pitcher Matt Allan is the 2019 Sentinel baseball player of the year after leading the Seminoles to their second state championship and first since 1992.
Allan, a third-round pick by the New York Mets earlier this week in the MLB Draft, is one of three Seminole players named to all-area teams.
Hagerty and Bishop Moore lead the way with four all-area selections. The Huskies are one of three teams with two players named to the first team, including centerfielder Riley Greene, who was chosen No. 5 overall in the draft by the Detroit Tigers on Monday.

Greene, a second-team Sentinel all-area player as a freshman and sophomore and first-teamer in 2018, agreed to contract terms and was formally introduced by the Tigers at a press conference Friday afternoon.
In all, 26 programs from throughout Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake and southwest Volusia counties have at least one player on all-area lists that include first, second and third teams plus honorable mentions.

Too bad there's no mention of his future plans for Allan. I'm glad to see Nunez on that list as well as a defensive standout and still batted .355.

The Hagerty SS is very athletic...he got drafted but don't know if signing
The 2 Windermere kids are very good. Senior pitcher headed to FSU. The Montgomery kid will be a big player next year....brother signed with USF out of Olympia, now at Rollins, also committed to FSU for now

I knew you could fill us in on those kids, just a matter of when you had time, wish old B Brewer would chime in here from time to time, probably more a matter of health right now tho, he was supposed to come up for some Baseball in the early season but never made it

If I hear one more time "Crisp should be in HS", I will puke. No, he should not. He is 19 years old. He should be exactly where he is, completing his 1st year of college.

Parents holding kids back so they compete against players a year younger than them - so they look good - is becoming far too common. McConnell, Acton, Armstrong, Pena... just call it like it is.

LHP throwing 94 is /was first round talent. Word is he had shoulder/arm issues in his senior year of HS and dropped precipitously. That said our trainer/strength coach's track record of dealing with kids with arm issues/Tommy John is unfortunately, nothing short of abysmal.

The hold back is everywhere....I almost assume it at this point. Remember kid who was a star at Lake Brantley who was 2 years older than most kids. He was good regardless, but the age is noticeable.

Got so irritated with Cardozo on the radio sayin 152 times "Crisp should be in HS". C'mon man, do your job, and do your homework. Now Jud SHOULD be in HS, and what he accomplished was nothing short of amazing!

Yeah.....agree on both. Although in Cardoza defense, the fact that Crisp probably had only a couple of years of high school experience which somewhat offsets the age

Word is the Braves sweetened the bonus for him to $422,500, well above his slot.

It was also said Owens wanted nothing more to do with school.

    Soooooooooooo...
