Wondering the same thing. I would think either this is a down year for high school players or the college baseball talent level is going up for the next few years.

For years the numbers have held pretty true—

Both the MLB and NCAA have the same numbers to look at—with criteria being “drafted players that make the MLB and stick for 8 years “

    College Players—67%
    HS Players—5%

Maybe they’re starting to pay attention to their own information—

This is how I feel about Jake Magnum. He hits and hits and hits. He was a 33rd rounder last year for some crazy reason and went 4th round this year to the Mets who will pay him nothing. I think he makes The Show. He has a career batting average over .300 as he hit over .300 all 4 years. He has the SEC record for hits. He simply hits and hits everyone.

I read something on ESPN which said this is one of the weakest drafts on record and 2020 is supposed to be the strongest since 2011 which had a litany of stars.

Not sure how that plays into college vs HS...

Curious how Dyson plays in the pros. I would think his future is as a reliever unless someone can get his consistency up. He has lots of ability. Would love to see him have a nice long career.

I agree with him being a relief guy unless he fixes his mechanics, but what is the point at the next level when they have a boatload of possible starters drafted. He has the stuff to get guys out so use that.

BTW, the signing deadline for these draftees is July 15.

It used to be the first day of Fall classes.

The official Gator baseball twitter account said that Dalton will "join 4 other Gators in the Red Sox organization".

So I guess that means he's leaving.

Langworthy doesn't really have a lot of pro tools. My stance on the draft is to always assume guys are leaving until you hear otherwise, but Langworthy is the type of player who does occasionally make it to their senior year.

That might be ideal for a Gator fan but a member of the Dyson family would highly likely not want to see that. His signing bonus would go from 300K give or take 50K (I don’t want to bother to look up Gal’s table again) to 10K when he has no leverage. He has to leave unless he just loves college and money means nothing to him.

When did they change that? NCAA rule or MLB rule? Seems odd that the MLB would add the restriction, but seems like the NCAA would have no hand.

    Go GATORS!

It existed at the very least last year. The deadline was something like July 7th last year.

For sure, totally selfish on my part. Who knows, maybe could establish some consistency in that role. Work into some longer relief as the season progresses. Start in the cws finals and bring us another championship. Maybe that would make him a few extra bucks?

    One can dream, right?

I think Lang was hoping for a better season and after as played out expected to be back, good for us we are going to need some kids who have been thru the wars and he is a great kid to boot

It's kind of annoying how often I agree with you.

I hate to say it, but maybe Lang should have gone pro in a late round out of high school. That way he could have worked his way up through the minors as a guy that knows how to play the game and be that guy on the bench that you could plug in to get the job done. That is a valuable skill but I don't think that MLB is looking for guys like that out of college.

I LOVE his game, but I don't know if scouts also love his game.

All I know is that he can play.

Not sure I agree on that one. Langworthy was a 31st rounder out of HS and while he would have gone higher if he hadn’t told scouts he wanted to go to school, he wasn’t ever going to be a top-5 round pick. He is a good student (all SEC Academic Honors his first two years) though and IMO, made a very smart decision to go to school. Langworthy has had a solid career and if he does decide to return, can leave with his degree and still have a chance to get a taste of pro ball after next year.

I do agree the kid has been a good college player but he just doesn’t show the projectable skills to make anyone believe he can have sustainable success at the professional level. Hope he sticks around and has a big SR year.
