BACK TO BACK LOSING SEASONS FOR HOLES!!!!!!!!

Discussion in 'RayGator's Swamp Gas' started by TJtheGator, Dec 31, 2019.

  1. #Conquered!

I wish nothing but the best for Norvell in 2020 as he attempts to repeat Taggart’s successes these past two years!

Not sure this is accurate. When compared head to head to FSU and Miami we came up short by a game in a couple of categories.

We won one fewer ACC game in 2019 than either FSU or Miami.

We won one fewer game overall in 2019 than FSU and Miami combined.

Now anytime some clown FSU fan mocks us Gator fans by saying “it’s great to be a 4 and 8er” we can appropriately respond with “at least we didn’t have back-to-back losing seasons, in the ACC no less.” If they hadn’t rescheduled that FCS game in 2017 to keep their dumb bowl streak alive it would be three in a row.

That streak was everything to them. Then Mullen ended it.

All that time they spent working on recovering fumbles showing some real dividends

If Norvelle can just be organized the holes should win 8 games in that weak conference.
..Look at any great Coach and they are extremely organizes.
    Saban
    Meyers
    Mullen
    Even Dabo...whom I despise.
Good coaches are organized but not to the minute detail that great ones are.
    Smart
    Malzhan
    HArborough
Then terrible coaches...no organization everything is fly by the seat of your panta.
    McElwain
    Taggart.
If Norvelle can be just organized to be good...he will win 8 games. But he has two major problems.
One..the culture of unorganized, lacking accountability, lacking prep by the players. This was magnified under Fisher and has gotten worse with Taggart. Norvelle will have an uphill battle.
Two...competition has gotten a jump on him.
    Virginia and Bronco Mendenhall
    UNC and Mack
    West Virginia and Fuentes
    even Wake Forest
All teams with coaches that have a year more in the rebuild process ahead of of Norvelle. If UNC and Virgina can get a toe hold and Clemson stays strong...FSu is in Trouble for a while.

2020/21 have somewhat more difficult schedules than usual for FSU, so 6/7 wins would be very good work.

Norvell's big key is going to be beating scUM over the next two seasons. If he can win both or split with a respectable loss, that should buy him enough good will to get to a very easy schedule (even for them) in 2022 with mainly his guys.

I think they should fire him if he doesn't get 11 wins. They were quick on the trigger with Willie, they need to have the quickest trigger in CFB

Check out your local sporting goods stores. Nolie merchandise is stacked floor to ceiling while Florida, Bama, Auburn, and even UCF merchandise are selling out. No one wants to be a Nolie anymore. No one wants to let people know that they root for such a pathetic group of losers.

F$U will always recruit reasonably well as long as (1) they can keep a straight face as they say they will compete for championships and (2) FAMU is down the street. F$U targets the gullible high school recruits who are more likely to buy what they are selling. In the ACC, with decent to above-average recruiting, a moderately organized coach can win 8-9 games easily, and do it in the first year.

There are a couple of wildcards, however:

    1) If their academics gets any worse, and they go on academic probation (which limits practice time), then they may drop 1-2 wins off their yearly total.

    2) If the inmates decide to run the asylum, and refuse to accept discipline, and Norvell cannot bring himself to throw the worst offenders off the team, then the team will continue to disintegrate, leading to 2-4 more losses per year. This has been a perennial problem with F$U in part due to the kind of players they recruit, and in part due to the culture of the coaching staffs (starting with Bobby Bowden) to win at all costs and pray for a misdemeanor. Bowden was only successful when the players limited their discipline problems to after-hours activities that did not affect on-field performance. Both Bowden and Fisher were undone when they overlooked disciplinary problems with star players that received no punishment for unacceptable behavior, and the rest of the team decided that they could follow suit, and in each case the lack of discipline spread to the practice field and eventually the playing field.

If both happen, F$U will look at 8-9 wins minus 3-6 wins, or an annual win total of (best case: 9-3=6, or worst case: 8-6=2) 2-6 wins. If they get down to 2-3 wins, recruiting will collapse, and they sink into long-term irrelevance.

Virginia will drop back to an average team when their QB moves on. Perkins' passing and rushing yardage represents almost 80% of their offense. UNC seems to be a bigger long-term threat to a team like F$U.

They rarely ever even have Gator stuff in the Quincy walmart (but if any comes in, its gone in a day or two), but the nolie stuff is there and its been hanging on the racks and sitting on the shelves since fsu lost to Boise State in game #1.

    No one is touching it.

Exactly. If UF played a game with 11 Gators on the field against 11 Nole and 11 Hurricane players on the other team, they (the Nole-Canes, or the Cane-Noles, or Cannolies for short) would have a decent chance of winning. At least until the Noles and Canes started fighting each other, which would start shortly after kickoff. At some point, a Nole would put Miami's Turnover Necklace into F$U's Turnover Purse and start acting all butch about it on the sidelines, and a riot would erupt.
