Sweet pickup, looks like our depth issue at DT has been solved. Former 4* recruit, 6-3 317#.
Welcome to the Gator Nation, Daquan!
Sounds like Dan is the Saban of the portal once again. Now he needs to go shopping(no literally, well maybe ;-)) for a another Grimes and some online depth.
Anyone have any idea why he’s leaving?
Gators add Auburn transfer DaQuan Newkirk
Nix, the great white hope didn't pan out...? Pretty easy if you watched the Gators what we need. We need help on "D"! Good for him. Good for us...
How so or can you list our SDE/DT lineup so far for next season?
Was Dequan a 2016 WDE that went JUCO and then transferred to Aubrin? Whatever it takes.

Looks like he grew and progressed naturally.
Coach getting fired is often a starting point
Great news and all but why do we always get these guys with one year left or in graduate school. The DT from Penn St. and Greenard last year come to mind.
Better late than never.
Newkirk - 317 (Auburn Starter)
Shelton - 327 (PSU Starter)
Dexter - 308
Lee - 315
Humphries? - 325 (Still on team?)
Goods? - 335 (Still on team?)
Dunlap? - 285 (Returning?)
Watson - 380 (Early enrollee)
Thomas - 290 (Early enrollee)
Carter - 290
Lang - 287 (Moving to DT?)
Umanmielen - 255
Moon - 250 (May play buck, but we have a ton of kids there now with Cox, Bogle, Chatfield, Summerall, Powell, etc.)
Boone - 250 (Early enrollee)
Sapp - 255 (Summer enrollee)
Nature of the game these days I guess? In some cases an under-rated player gets overlooked by the big guys but shows out as an underclassmen and wants to finish their career at a school like Florida. In the case of Newkirk, his coach got fired so that always leads to turnover.
Because that's when guys who are known-quantity contributors usually leave. It's relatively rare for someone who starts as a freshman to decide to start over at a new school.
Would you rather get them or let someone else have them? Van, Greenard, and Grimes were all big time contributors and all were Portal guys.
Hit on many more than we miss on a proven college guy with one year left than a talented high school guy with 3-5 years left.
Anyone that can help us win the line of scrimmage battles is more then welcome.
Hmm. I guess Cox left. Hadn't heard that.
Absolutely I want them. Just wish they saw the light and came to the good guys earlier. With all the transfer portal activities the last few years, it seems like being recruited out of high school is very complicated and maybe stressful for the kids. I guess that's how these things come about and it doesn't work out like they thought it would.
Nope, he'll likely be our starting WDE/Buck again.
