Nothing says "get Saban shakin' in his boots" quite like following the UT model ...

Auburn's 3rd choice from the article

"Louisiana head coach Billy Napier and Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables previously turned down the Auburn job, sources told ESPN's Chris Low."

Auburn names Boise State's Harsin as new coach

A bit surprising by Auburn but who knows it may pay off. I'm not sure as an up and coming coach that I would want the Auburn job in the current state of college football.

He did a pretty good job at Boise. May not be a bad hire.

I don't think Boise State has really been a powerhouse since Chris Peterson left but I could be wrong. I just remember watching them get blown out by BYU and San Jose State this year and they definitely didn't look formidable in those games. I also hope somebody can fill us in on whether Harsin has any experience or ties to the SEC or any of the states where Auburn has traditionally drawn players from.

I paid 0 attention to them this year, so that's interesting if he was getting smoked in games. I know his team is young. But I also am wondering if he has any sort of recruiting ties?

I live in Sun Valley Idaho now. But I was born and raised in Sarasota, 29 years. Anyhow, I’ve watched a few Boise state games live and been to several practices last year when we could still do fun stuff. I’m not a good judge of anything really and definitely not head coaching searches. Harsin reminds me of Chris Peterson. He did spend time on CP’s staff at Boise state as the OC and then took over Arkansas st to only ultimately return to Boise 3-4 years later. He’s done good recruiting Texas and California in particular in his time at Boise. He’s just very Ho hum about things so he’s a hard read. But if given time with the correct staff to help him recruit, they should battle Arkansas every year for dead last in the west. Go Gators!!

So, you believe they will dominate the bottom of the SEC West every year.

It will be interesting what happens with Bo Nix. The times I have seen him, he hasn’t looked all that great and he hasn’t progressed at all. I see more of the same from auburn next year. Getting thumped by both their long time rivals in Georgia and Alabama. With A&M starting to make noise in the west, this could be a major project.

    Weird hire IMO.

my daughter goes to Boise State, and while they have an exciting football atmosphere, it’s nothing like the SEC. Let’s see how his unfolds. If it makes Saban’s life more difficult, I’m all for it.

FWIW, he’s 11th on the winningest active coaches list (7th if you filter out coaches who have less than 5 years under their belts).

Meanwhile, Gus and Muschamp are pooling their money and building their own college and college football team at the South Huntsville Institute of Technology.
