Good news, a couple of minutes after my last post the phone rang and it was her speaking in a whispering voice. They took the tube out this morning, she was asking me to bring her a couple of things from home. Hopefully she will be out of ICU soon now.

My biggest problem right now is trying not to make her laugh. I've spent the last 50 years saying stupid things to make her laugh. Today after she took a poop the nurse was wiping her ass. I told her not to expect that treatment from me. The nurse said "Don't be so sure". I told her, well I saw you warm up the wet wipes before you started, if I have to wipe her ass she is getting cold straight out of the package wet wipes. I could tell by the look on Jeanie's face it hurt like hell to laugh so I guess I had better cool it for a while with the comedy.

If it ever gets to the point where I have to wipe anyone’s ass or they have to wipe mine I’m getting a bidet. Hell I may get one anyway.

Finally some good news, after 12 days in ICU and 2 days in a regular room they are talking about letting Jeanie come home tomorrow. They wanted her to go to a rehab center for a couple of weeks, probably because my insurance would pay for it LOL but Jeanie is having no part of that. The Dr said as long as I am retired and will be with her 24 hrs a day it is OK for her to come home. They will send a therapy nurse over every day or so to work with her. They want her up and walking around to get those new heart valves working, just no lifting or pushing with her arms. Guess I will be playing nurse for a while, just hope she doesn't need help wiping that ass.

Good to hear the news. Be assured though, being a caregiver is some tough duty.

Burnout can happen so fast. It's important to take time for yourself while caring for others.

I'm sorry I missed this entire post. Hubster had the same surgery last year, got a pig valve replacement. I am so glad she is doing better, and happy for you and the relief you must feel!

Yeah I asked one of the nurses if she got pig valves or artificial valves and the nurse said she thought she got bovine valves. I have been practicing my oinking sounds now I might have to start practicing mooing. Wouldn't it be cool if I were to find out they gave her one of each, that way when she is 100% better I could follow her around singing Old McDonald had a farm.

The artificial valves are for the older people that can't go through with a major operations. They actually go through the groin to put them in and then you have to be on blood thinners the rest of your life.

You're too much with the oink oink sounds, maybe I should tell my husband he is actually a male chauvinist PIG! ;)

Also actually if I am not mistaken they can only replace the mitral valve through the groin, the aortic valve has to be done with open heart surgery. They originally were replacing her aortic valve but ended up replacing both along with some repair to some muscle damage. Then later a second operation to remove fluid that had developed around her heart after the first surgery. She has been through a lot.
