I took Mrs51 into Advent health for some scheduled open heart surgery. We checked in at 5AM surgery was scheduled for 7am. they were going to replace a heart valve and estimated 4 hrs surgery and 2 hrs in recovery. As usual things went wrong, they had to replace 2 heart valves and repair some damaged muscle. Surgery took 6 hrs then while in recovery she developed a bleed. 3 hrs to stop the bleeding and I was finally allowed to see her. what I saw will probably be etched in my memory for life. She was wrapped up in what reminded me of an astronaut suit, face shield and wrapped in cloth with only her face showing. Her skin was pale and what little color in her cheeks was blue.

Short of death I can say there is nothing worse than seeing a loved one incapacitated and in excruciating pain. It hurts to the bone and the tears won't stop no matter how you look at it. While the surgery didn't go as expected it sounds as though the surgery was successful. My hope is you have family to lean on while the wife heals. Rest and time are a necessity for both of you. My prayers go out to you and your wife. May God bless and keep you both safe and secure.

Update: Jeanie is still having some issues but looks a whole lot better today and she is back to being her regular bitchy self LOL. That's a good thing. When I walked in this morning she was bitching out the nurse in sign language. They haven't been able to remove the breathing tube because every time they adjust the pressures her O2 level drops way down. They put a scope into her lungs to see if they needed to suction out fluid but everything looked OK. They are also having problems with her sinus rhythm and they are talking about possibly adding a pacemaker. Dr Accola is one of the top rated cardiovascular surgeons in the state so she is in good hands. She has been through a lot and it is just gonna take time.

Thanks guys. As of 8am last night she was still on the breathing tube and still in ICU but looking a whole lot better. I spent about 6 hrs up there with her yesterday and she was awake the whole time. Hopefully they will get that damn tube out of her throat today so she can go to a regular room.
