I believe “Play that Funky Music White Boy” was written and performed by a band named Wild Cherry. Not sure but think most of this band is white. It was a massive hit. The story goes something like this; the group was going nowhere playing whatever style they played. A band member overheard a bar patron say, “ Why don’t they just play some funky music for white boys!” They soon wrote this into their famous song and they started a new trajectory for the band.
