By: Eric Fawcett -- May 29, 2025 SEC basketball has fully arrived, and it looks like it’s here to stay. For years it seemed like the best conference in college basketball bounced between the ACC, the Big East, the Big Ten, and the Big 12 (sorry, Pac-12), with the SEC usually lagging just behind, but that has completely flipped. Warning shots were fired in 2023-24 with SEC teams starting to tool up, and the build reached completion last season in 2024-25 when the league was one of the strongest that college basketball has ever seen. With the huge levels of spending around the league–don’t expect things to be taking a step back. How SEC Basketball Coaching Changes Could Affect The League | GatorCountry.com
More competition for Florida, maybe, but also more chances for a team chasing Florida at the top of the standings to lose.
I never got all the hate by the prognosticators about SEC basketball. That disrespect was overplayed by the sportscasters for some odd reason. To me... It seems like if Kentucky isn't a top 5 consensus basketball team at the start of any given year that the entire SEC got no respect and was instantly diminished, disrespected as a conference by these talking heads. Now that the Gators have won it all, and look to have the best team in the SEC if not the entire country... I don't care what the rest of the SEC does nor their coaching staffs. And I don't think the Gators get disrespected either. The Gators will compete for another Natty this year, and we will be the team that brings respect to the entire SEC as the Defending National Champions of College Basketball. And it's coach Golden that will be mentioned in the highest regard/respect as the coach that brought the SEC back from irrelevancy. But most importantly it will be Golden that brought the Gators back to the top of the college basketball world. It's coach Golden that will be the coach to beat this year, and it will be the Gators that will be the team to beat. GO GATORS !
