By: Andrew Spivey -- August 24, 2023 It’s that time of the year again when the Friday Night Lights are bright and prospects across the country are starting the high school football season. Like the past years, Gator Country is going to do a preview every Thursday for all of the Florida Gators commits and on Monday we will do a full recap including stats and notes from the past weeks’ games. This year we are going to also highlight the key players to watch in the game that aren’t Florida Gators commits but rather targets or just big names in the game. DJ's fist game was pretty sick. Regardless of how overmatched the opponent was, that much production in the first half was insane... What a great kid, what an athlete. Huge positive shift for the good guys. Can't wait! Go Gators.
Defensive lineman Amaris Williams (6-3, 270, Clinton, NC. High) Result: Clinton defeated Wallace-Rose Hill 58-22 on Friday night. Game Stats: Williams had 4 carries 114 yards and a touchdown. On defense, he had six tackles and two tackles for a loss. How the heck does a 270lb d-lineman have 4 carries for 114 yards? Must be one heck of an athlete.
The DT we were after last year (McDonald from Suwanee, GA) was 300 plus pounds and they would put him at TB.
I'm hoping Brown is good enough to contribute soon. Him and DJ would be a nice combo. Is Mertz back next year too? Maybe too early to tell. Not sure about Miller, he seems to be in the wings always healing. For right now I suppose nothing matters but TENN week. Arghhh. GO GATORS!!
