I'm so glad we kept him from FSU. I think Norvel thought he had his next running back like Jordan Travis. Jones is much better passing than Travis was as a freshman.

I think the players opinions carry quite a bit of weight. They seem rather impressed with the lad.

    Sure hope so

    Just some other ponderings...

the football playing fields 'landscape' sure seems to have evened out a bit. Call it an accumulated state of transfer portal parity. This year a lot of stacked teams play other stacked teams. Some decent early match-ups, that's for sure. I wish both teams could lose some of these games. (Evil sentiment, sorry) I hope some of the teams with really deep pockets lack team chemistry, leaving them vulnerable.

We'll see. I also hope we can snag a few players that have not declared just yet. Perhaps a decent showing this year will sway a few.

    It's great to-be a Florida Gator!

    Go Gators.:)

It better not be Warner unless Napier is trying to get canned if Lagway was to miss games. Bailey may not be great but he has shown he can be a game manager and have decent touch on some longer throws. Warner has shown to be what he was at Yale - a scout team level QB who has no business being 2nd string in the SEC. It would be Napier playing favorites like Mullen did having to be forced to put Trask in over Franks.

Mullen didn't recruit Franks or Trask. He inherited them from McElwain. Mullen thought, for reasons nobody has ever determined, that Felipe was better.

Both Warner and Bailey were recruited out of the portal by Napier. How would he be "playing favorites" to choose either one over the other?

I don’t serve bacon because we all are entitled to our opinions. But your trashing of Warner is out of bounds. Both his parents graduated from Florida and Aiden is apparently a Gator at heart too. Opinions that demean a player should not be stated on a public forum: if for no other reason as common courtesy.
BTW, Warner played very well in his limited opportunities: except for the Texas debacle but that was on the entire team and staff. He has talent, heart and football IQ. That’s my opinion and apparently the UF coaching staff concurs.

Players are getting paid to play, so I have no idea why they would not be subject to criticism for how they do their jobs. I am every day and dont get the perks they do. I think this poster went beyond what he should have though.

Writers from other sports sites have said Warner looked much better throwing in spring and fall, and he played in those games not 100% physically able, so the criticism is just what was apparent but not his level. I thought Lagway played below his abilities in some big games he won, and he was injured also.

Napier is biased though to legacies. He has admitted that because he feels they play harder and have more passion for the Gators. Hopefully we won't need to find out if he has this bias for 2nd stringer qb. I still believe Lagway determines our record this year.

I am not trashing him. Just saying we all could see what we saw. Him not immediately going to the backup spot at Yale shows where he is at. Just saying if Napier wants to play favorites and sends Warner out there again if Lagway is out he should expect what he gets. Being a good kid is nice but doesn't mean you should be the backup QB at UF over people who have shown they can play some in FBS power 4 football.

Playing favorites if Warner is named 2nd string because Warner clearly showed how limited he is when he was put in the game and when Bailey played last season in power 4 football while not great it was a lot better and didn't show the clear limitations Warner has. As far as Franks that was Mullen being hard headed on going with the more experienced QB which he is known for.

Not a mullen defender at all but on top of Trask not being a runner which was probably the biggest factor in Mullen favoring Franks, I think he had a bit of a dilemma at times managing 2 QBs and no one behind them. Bench Franks who may have had a fragile ego and become a headcase for Trask who was injury prone up until his last two years? Just my take

Hindsight is always 20/20…. Or 50/50 in this case.

Franks had a stronger arm and was more mobile than Trask which fit better with what Mullen wanted to do. Also, Mullen was a believer in alpha dogs and felt that Franks was developing this quality vs Trask.

Finally, if Trask hadn’t have broken his ankle in practice, he would have gotten his opportunity sooner. Just didn’t work out that way unfortunately.
