If that's the case then when need to stretch the lead early if possible. The closer the game, the more the refs like to interject themselves.
Actually I think in very close games the refs let a lot go at the end so that the players decide the game.
Id agree mostly with that, but I don't wanna rely on the refs not trying to control the game until then and letting Vandy build up momentum in front of a home crowd. Hopefully Texas knocked some wind out of their sails because that place would have been bat**** if they came home undefeated against the defending champs. Probably still will be. Also where I'd disagree is Tourney time. Some refs have been rumored to tell inner circles that one of the feathers in the cap in the profession is to say you were a part of "X" game. You know, George Mason-Uconn. Butler-Duke. Games that for the most part I dont even have to say the year or any context, you know what Im talking about. And its not a stretch to say some try to subtly influence a game to be or stay close in order to create "that" game.
This has to be the first time I’ve seen the phrase “aesthetically pleasing” in a men’s sport article. Well done!
Sorry, I was responding to Eric’s reasoning suggesting that Vandy would put themselves up on us by 3 games if they beat Texas and Florida due to the tiebreaker. Now that they’ve lost to Texas, we could enjoy a 2 game lead over them by the same token. If we can score the win.
Regardless to Vandy having an advantage with their guards, I keep going back to what will Vandy do with Chins. I mean 6-7 240 is not going to be able to guard him. Then their one big guy will have to come in to see how their one tall player can guard both Chins and Condo. After that they bring in a freshman big and it will be all over if Leverette has to play more than 6-7 minutes. If Chins keeps hitting free throws, they can't play hack a Shaq for very long.
It's all about defending their guards. They need very little space and are quick. Before UT I predicted a 4 game losing streak for vandy based on their weak schedule. Let's make it 2!
Love your thinking. Big guy gets pushed around, fouls, hits the bench. Then it's like the Oklahoma game. Sure, maybe their guards can hit 101% of their 3s. But if our bigs stay out of foul trouble, and theirs don't....
Even if Chins or Condo goes to the bench, then their one tall guy has to guard Hands. Another problem they will have to deal with.
I admit I'm bias. It seems to me referees swallow their whistle when gators have the ball, then remember to use it when the other team have the ball.
I just wonder how Chinyelu and Handlogten will handle some of their actions out in space defensively. Vandy will want those guys moving and having to make drops and decisions on ball screens. Their pace will also keep our bigs running. Will need a healthy rotation at the 4 and 5, and for all those bigs to stay out of foul trouble.
McGlockton is 10 for 43 for .233 from 3 and the big man Washington is only 6 for 20 at .300 in 17 games. That's less than 1 made three per game. I would think we play off of them and focus on the other 4. Like you say the decisions are created from the ball screens but if McG or Washington are the screeners. no need to stay tight on them out high. That said, defending 4 possible shooters from 3 ain't easy.
We’ll see. Our drop coverage doesn’t necessarily use our bigs to play anyone tight on the perimeter, but we have have to show or hedge on ball screens if our guards aren’t getting over the screens well (McGlockton is a LOAD). And our bigs will have to help cover when their guards slither to the rim, where they finish very well.
Yes that's part of it. Hands has not been very helpful even over 7 feet trying to "run" at shooters. All he seems to do is get out of rebound position as the shot goes over his head. Certainly it's up to Boogie, Lee, and Tommy to stay on their man out to the 3 point line. And drop coverages and switches all can be a problem. I just like the rest of what we can control down low.
