13th on the team in slugging %, 12th in HR, 13th in HR per AB We know the power is there, got a taste in '21, but we sure didn't get the results this season
I’m a big Armstrong fan but yeah, this season was disappointing after the year he had last year. Never got it going.
I recall when he first arrived I wondered if he might end up as a pitcher. Was he the guy that could pitch from either side as well but never was needed?
Came in with a shoulder injury that kept him off the mound his first year, iirc. He was the guy that threw from both sides. I always wondered why we never saw him on the mound. I don’t think he pitched in a single game. He’ll probably make a decent first baseman somewhere, doubt he gets drafted though. Not surprised he’s leaving. Cags should have first base pretty well locked down already. He may not be pitch ready at the beginning of the season, but I think he’ll be good to start at first. He was throwing quite a bit at the end of the year in warmups.
Armstrong was on campus for four seasons and got plenty of chances but could never put it together. I thought he had shown some signs of figuring things out in 2021 but he struggled at the plate once again last season hitting .230 with just two HRs. Wish the kid well going forward but this will not be a big loss.
I had high expectations for him this year, but he was given plenty of opportunity and unfortunately earned bench time with it. Lots of potential so don’t like to see him leave, but that’s the way it goes.
And they’re both HUGE. Cags is a couple inches taller and a few lbs heavier. I’d expect him to put on a little more weight before next season too. He’s a big boy.
Kris Armstrong is a phenomenal kid. I hope he goes somewhere and kicks ass. Privileged to know him and his family.
I am a big fan of Kris but this last season he only showed that he can make outs fron both sides of the plate. I think he is better than that, but maybe not at UF. I wish him well.
Kris was never given the reps this year to help him settle into a groove. Seemed unfair. They had him taking lots of reps at 3rd in scrimmages Fall/Spring and looked pretty good with his strong pitchers arm- solid throws and pretty good footwork, but Sully went with D. Fabian and Cali at first. I sense that shook Kris and he struggled early when he got it going- on the bench again. I believe it had something to do with the chemistry with coaches. I've had the opportunity to speak with him several times off field and he is a smart and good guy. Wish him all the best and at a top notch program. Kris has class.
Glad you said that and not just because you agree with me. There are a lot of posters that Kris got fair opportunity and I would disagree with that all day long. Hoping he tears it up next year.
