Aretha Franklin, 'Queen of Soul,' dead at 76
Without doubt a voice that was personally sanctified by God Himself, and without doubt a righteous woman who has gone to take her place as the leader - bar none! - of the Heavenly Choir.
Move aside Whitney, Ella, Etta, Janis, Patsy, Tammy and all the rest who have been serenading the Lord on High. Even you, Billie. The Queen has ascended to her throne, and will not be displaced anytime soon, if ever.
Get ready, people! The train is coming for us all!
I will order four whole fried chickens and a coke in her honor.
People need to think about what they're sayin'! They better think about the consequences of their actions!!
"People walking around everyday
Playing games, taking score
Trying to make other people lose their minds
Ah, be careful you don't lose yours!"
And I think I will have white bread toast dry with nothin on it.
I have a big presentation at work today. My colleague and I are going to try and drop a good "Think" and "Respect" reference in the Queen's honor. Told him if he can work in a "Natural Woman" reference, he wins!
RIP, Aretha, and thanks for all the decades of amazing music.
I have an RIP playlist on Spotify. It contains only people I listened to from the 80's on that have passed. Cobain, George Michael, Whitney, Michael Jackson, Chris Cornell, STP, Cranberries, Queen, Glen Frey, Alice In Chains, J. Geils, INXS, Prince, Robert Palmer and more that I can't remember. (Petty is on there of course, but he also has his own exclusive playlist) "Who's Zoomin Who", "Freeway of Love", and "I Knew You Were Waiting", which is already on the playlist due to George Michael's death, are the only one's from my era, but I will add them to my playlist.
Not a real duet, it's a remix/mashup, and disregard the soccer video that the music was laid over for some reason, but this is Aretha Franklin singing "together" with Elvis Presley. Pretty poignant since they both died on the same date, Elvis on August 16, 1977 and Aretha on August 16, 2018.
A distinctive voice that will never go out of style, and even though she's gone--her sound will live forever.
Definitely an icon, and she lived a full life--aside from and including--a legendary career.
RIP, and Godspeed A.F.--THE Queen of Soul.
Enough to make it a national holiday.
Mmm, Rib Sammich!
She was most definitely the Queen of Soul!
People should show her some...
Didn’t know the lady (I’m a little younger), but I’ll take y’all’s word that the world lost a talent today.
Love this and well put. I would not, however, suggest that Ella & Billie move aside. They're already occupying their own special places, as they did something much different. Billie was a pioneering jazz melody performer. Ella was the queen of scat.
My favorite Aretha performance . . .
You Tube some of her songs and you'll see why she was called the Queen of Soul!
A true great. What a talent! May she Rest In Peace.
Plank, you get wise. You get to church!
Seriously, do yourself a favor and watch a few live performances of hers. Find the ones where she is young. She made phenomenal singing look SOOOOOOOOO easy. She was beyond special. Words can't express what she was.
This is a tough one.....damn......Godspeed Aretha.......
