That top 5 is so good I'm willing to overlook the fact that UNLV was playing in Laramie after a hailstorm the other night, not snow. Actually hail sounds a lot worse than snow to play tackle football in, at least snow is soft.

Congrats to the team for knocking the preseason #1 out of the rankings. Texas isnt built for a rugged los league year in year out. How long is sark’s leash?

I wondered this with the Zooker also. These kids that play so hard and focused when the job is on the line, where we're they against the USF (BN)and NC State (RZ) competition? They didn't have their coach's back then?

Are you thinking Miss State rather than NC State? That really was Zook's only loss to an inferior team. Cowbells lost to Maine! They did their starting QB for our game though. Still, no excuse for that. They were probably looking past MSU to Georgia the following week.

He had a problem with MSU that definitely contributed to his firing, but I believe he had a bad ooc lopsided loss to NCSU his first year iirc. I may be misremembering.

I dont ever remember playing NC state during the Zook tenure. Miami, LSU and FSU best us by multiple TDs his first year. 03 he lost to ole miss again, this time at home, Tennessee at home, the swindle at home and that was the year we were up on Miami early and they came back and won late. He had some bad losses, but nothing like a USF or Vandy, the Miss state loss was even on the road.

He also had a streak beating ranked SEC opponents. But the cumulative of underperforming got him. We apparently have a greater tolerance for underperforming now. Of course that comes with gigantic buyouts compared to then. Each mistake is more costly.

He was also the guy replacing Spurrier, kind of what Deboer is dealing with at Bama. UF fans at that time thought 9-3 was a disappointment and 8-4 was our floor. Little did we know 20 years later we would be begging for 9-3.

Lets see if UF has anything left in the tank and can actually win a road game with a team that has a pulse, and btw, TAMU has a serious pulse at the moment.

Texas has not beaten a team with a pulse yet this season. Poor Arch, his stock is plunging worse than Black Friday / Oct. 1929.
He may have to "Pay" a team to play if this keeps up. LOL

I grieve for Longhorn boosters............ NOT

Really this is it. If Zook had been the coach at any other time, who knows if he's our all-time HBC by now? When you compare his record to everyone else's after Meyer, he's right up there and he did make strides. It was just one too many of those bad losses that did him in. But he did have the energy, he was a great recruiter, and above all, wasn't trying to be everything. Just following the GOAT is difficult when you aren't destroying the teams the GOAT destroyed and you lose the games the GOAT never lost to.
