Trask Named among Manning Award Stars of the Week - Florida Gators
Top 8 game managers of the week!
Just like all of Burrow's warts were exposed this year.
Game Manager is a stylistic thing, not a numbers thing. Plenty of Air Raid QBs are game managers who put up gaudy numbers (including a lot of the guys at the top of the all-time single season passing list). It's all about what you're asked to do. A high completion percentage or a lot of passing yards doesn't mean you aren't a Game Manager.
Trask isn't the playmaker on our offense, he's the guy who gets the ball to the playmakers. Trask throws a bunch of screen and short passes, and relatively few longer passes. Mullen's offense has only required Trask to make the easy pass; if something isn't there, he always has a check down. He's got good accuracy, but he's not expected to throw into tight windows or to beat coverage with his arm (think Drew Brees, who is accurate enough to complete passes to guys even when they're well covered). Like a lot of prolific Game Managers, Trask could be accurately described as a "system quarterback." None of this means that Trask isn't talented, it just means our success isn't predicated on him making difficult throws. Trask has only been good for maybe one "damn, that's a hell of a pass" per game.
FWIW, in the little he played this year, Feleipe's completion percentage, YPA, YPC, and passing efficiency were all substantially higher than Trask's.
I am grateful for what Franks contributed this year but, refresh my memory, what defenses did he play against ?
he's a heck of a game manager throwing for 300 yards and multiple Tds a game with 0 running game.
Let these numbers sink in: 5 yrs ago passing stats:
Rank #107 Florida 12 G
Total yds: 2051 yds
Rank #17 Florida 12 G
TD/Int: 32/9 (Trask 24/6)
Total yds: 3605 (Trask 2636)
YPG:297.8 (Trask 239.6)
It wasn't long ago we barely knew what a forward pass was...
I am willing to bet Trask gets drafted once his college days are done.
Being a "game manager" isn't as bad as it sounds. It means you are prepared to "take what the defense gives you" rather than "damn the torpedoes, full steam ahead."
And it should also mean if you have the choice of taking a sack or throwing a pick 6, you choose the sack.
Fromm is a game manager to a T, as is what Georgia's offenses typically ask from their QBs. Same with Alabama's QBs minus Tua, and maybe Jalen Hurts.
Not a bad thing. Safe players are usually labeled that way.
