I caught myself having the ufl on in the background. Now I don’t really watch football anymore unless it’s the gators playing. Spring football is the way to expand the nfl.

Weird, my football watching is, to use Yoda's way of talking. LOL I'm sorta in the same place dan - If it ain't UF, in whatever sport, my attention span is very short.
Even with College Football. I follow the NFL Eagles sparingly because I live near Philly. I watch the NFL playoffs a bit.

I dunno, if it ain't orange and blue on whatever field, in whatever sport, I flip the channel.

Thumbing through Lindy's and Athlon preseason mags, Miami is listed in the Top 10 on both the DL and LB's.
Our co-DC's are still wet behind the ears so I don't understand how our defensive staff is better than Miami's.

The Canes also have Jason Taylor as their DL coach. Advantage them.
A former NFL Defensive Player of the Year with the Miami Dolphins, Taylor was a six-time NFL Pro Bowl selection
and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2017 – his first year of eligibility. Taylor finished his playing
career with 775 career tackles, 139.5 career sacks and 46 forced fumbles.

Remember how incredibly sloppy both team were in Orlando 2019? I expect us to be more polished on both sides and hope scUM's offense is clanky and disrupted again.

IDK, it's been my experience that a UM guy will say he hates UF or FSU more depending on who he is talking to. Same for the other fan bases. FSU and Miami have a more heated rivalry than we have with the canes.

Having lived in SFla for many years, every Cane I've ever met hated the Gators far more than the Noles. Not even close. Maybe it's different in north/central Fla, don't know any canes there.

Correspondingly ever Nole I've met hates the canes, especially older Noles that experienced the frustration of always losing big games to them.

Personally, I used to be ok with the canes till I moved to Miami after college, then they became rival #1 for a long time in football and baseball. No longer play them in most sports but still consider them a hated rival. Happy to see Sully totally dominating them in recent years.

We have 4 coaches with coordinator experience. Ron Roberts has at least 25 years of Defensive coordinator experience and is considered the godfather of our system.

Jason Taylor although a great player in his day has not proven anything as coach. He has one year of experience at the college level. Our defensive end coach is Mike Peterson and he has 13 years of NFL experience and 8 years of coaching experience at the college level. Advantage Florida.

Yes, those were some of the silliest assertions I have seen on these boards. I'm still shaking my head about a high school coach clearly over a proven college and NFL DL coach.

Taylor was no doubt an elite player, but that means absolutely nothing as to his coaching abilities. Only time will tell there.

He’s isn’t playing though, he is coaching which has very little in common.

A lot of really great players are terrible coaches. A lot of terrible players are really great coaches. I think someone who wasn’t as athletically gifted and had to really work at the basics to be decent is actually much more likely to be a better coach.

I'm 37 years old, and I care a lot. IMO, college football will NEVER be as good as it was 10, 20, 30 years ago. I absolutely despise this superconference BS, and I'm honestly not even a huge fan of the playoff. I didn't mind the BCS era one bit, and I miss the days when bowl season actually mattered.

That being said, many of the traditions and the pageantry and all of the great stuff that made college football unique are still there, and are never going away. Yeah, conference realignment (greed) has certainly killed a lot of regional pride and traditions and rivalries. I have no desire to see west coast teams join the Big Ten, just like I have no desire to see teams from Texas and Oklahoma join the SEC.

The bottom line is that despite all the changes, many of which I do not agree with, college football is still my favorite thing to watch. Go Gators, F*** Miami. We're gonna win by double digits, and yes I'll be betting on that.

Miami is getting decent respect by pundits not wearing O&B.
As you stated, many of their "units" are ranked in the top 10.

They have done well in both recruiting and the transfer portal.
Many pundits have them as 2nd or 3rd in the ACC, and some have
them winning as many as 10 games.

    Like UF they have not done so well W - L under Mario. 7 - 6, 5 - 7, 7 - 5.
That is of course in ACC play.

So the offseason buzz is fairly positive. And Vegas has them as a slight favorite,
    game 1 in the Swamp.

UF advantages: Mertz is in year 2 and the U's QB transfer is starting fresh
    in a new system.
    UF is at home.

I kinda have it as a "pick em" myself. (and I am picking UF) Not that I am smarter than Vegas.

It's a real exciting opener for both teams, and arguably will be the most intense game that Saturday.

    Looking forward to it!

Huge game. Hopefully we open up a lead and force miami's new QB into some tough reads and he makes mistakes. Napier is conservative and measured. Hope this one's not close.

Who cares about the Vegas line.

Ask the Canes if they are confident enough to put the war canoe back on the table.

They are afraid of losing a canoe that doesn't even float with an EVEN line on the table.

I'll take the home dog for 3.5 points.

I get an unbiased media person looking at the two teams without weighting conferences picking Miami over Florida. But I don't see the euphoria over Miami, expecting them to be mightily improved. They plugged some self-imposed holes in the roster. But if you look at the stats, they went from a qb with 2 years in the system to a first year guy, and they have almost exact rating and qbr. The new guy just throws closer to the LOS and has less interceptions and more throws. They go from a 6.3 yards per carry rb to a 6.1 yards per carry. They are at best like us, hoping the OL improves, and hoping somehow the secondary doesn't look terrible again.
