If we can’t pack the Swamp, we are in trouble. Surge in COvid can unpack it.
We went toe-to-toe with them with no defense.
Obviously, our offense takes a step down so does theirs.
My hunch is Alabama has an advantage (as always). The key for us is a BIG upgrade in defense. Historically, when we have a rough defensive year our next year is a huge turnaround. I don't know if Grantham can do that, though.
But if we've got a top 25 defense we'll win.
Emory Jones career stats at Florida:
RUSH: 92 rushes for 513 yards = 5.6 yards per carry
PASS: 55/86 (64%) for 613 yards = 7.1 yards per pass
7 touchdowns & 1 interception
Again...he's got an arm and we need to use it against Alabama.
To beat someone like Coach Saban - you have to think outside the box. They will prepare for Emory to run it. This is a given!
And to be clear - I'm not saying that he never runs in that game. Just make sure he's throwing it more than running in. That's all.
You make good points.
I hope this season EJ takes on a Clemson role similar to DW and not the MSU DP, NF use of the QB.
EJ will be deadly selectively running for huge yds if we can establish the threat of him running and breaking contain on passing attempts and our other RBs and o-line can deliver the mail. There is no doubt EJ can throw. We should know how effective he can be by sports center time on 9-18-21.
I hope Emory has bulked up if there are plans to him run more. I honestly saw Richardson as a better run option most of the time.
Murph's comments on Emory (Fab 5) from 2019.......
I’m going to feel so bad for wishing that on him.
The plan should be to beat Bama.
True, which maybe we don't do if he runs 20 times in the first quarter and comes up gimpy.
Top Billin' seems impressed with EJ's abilities. He's had a year and a half of development since that video breakdown, right? I'm expecting good things from the kid. Throwers gotta throw, catchers gotta catch. He's been patiently learning, developing. We'll see...
I'm leaning towards EJ surprising many people and having a very good year.
I doubt he runs twenty times all game but whatever works.
I'm on record (and will say it again) that he will be a Heisman contender - if we use his passing skills properly. That will be entirely up to our coach, though. I have no say-so.
So let it be written, so let it be done. Gators by 10.
I would be so smitten. That would be fun.
Remember when #3 Ole Miss came into the Swamp and Will Grier threw 4 TDs and we beat them 38-10. It’ll be like that. Bama going down and it ain’t gonna be pretty for them.
I have no idea whether EJ will be terrible or great... like I really have no clue. Would love to see him come out and light it up!
Yep, awesome and I was there with great seats
Depends on the defense.
Skipped from page one to this point, so I don’t know if any one else has touched on the following point. For all those that can’t help but think that OUR D will be better and that our O played to within 6 points of the Tide, bear in mind that the D we faced had been decimated by the loss of 3 or 4 key players earlier in the year. This years Tide D with those guys healthy will also likely be vastly improved. It’s going to be a challenge.
