The scam where someone calls a grandparent claiming to be a grandchild in trouble and needing money has been around a while. This takes it to a new level. Apparently someone used artificial intelligence to copy a teen's voice and created her telling her mother she'd been kidnapped. I got one of those grandparent scam calls a few weeks ago. A guy sounding at least 30, maybe 40 sounding distressed and saying, "Grandpa, this is your oldest grandson!" I knew it was scam, but asked who it was again. "Your oldest grandson. Grandpa, I've been in an accident." I think they usually do enough research to learn the kid's name, but this guy hadn't. I hung up. But just to make sure, I checked with my son to make sure my oldest grandson was OK. He was fine and really likes burritos.
I have come to accept that scam calls and texts will never stop no matter how many times you don't reply ot block so I just have fun with them. My Hindi vocabulary has expanded quite a bit. Watching YouTube scam bait channels is so satisfying as well
yep, on my non personal phone sometimes they get some texts back telling them where to go and what to do when they get there lol. Otherwise I just ignore them.
They look for elderly. I play along sometimes and give them all the correct answers for a while. They are so nice until they realize I'm wasting their time. They don't usually break form however until I drop some choice words lol.
