Because it meant war. And a massive troop and equipment commitment. So, given that, answer my questions. Not simple sound bite comments that Biden is stupid. Tell me what your solution is.
I already told you he should have gotten our people out before withdrawing troops but that seems to not be getting through to you.
And I told you I would have taken US citizens out starting with entry into the deal with the Taliban and long before the withdrawal reached critically low levels. The hedge against a collapse of the Afghani army would have been to “get our people out” before the agreed and extended deadline to withdraw troops. Beginning in February 2020 and continuing into the Biden Administration. We had 2500 troops on Afghanistan when Biden took office. The good news is that we now have 3 times as many troops in Afghanistan as when BIden took office. Wouldn’t need them if Trump and then Biden had worked to get “our people” out earlier.
There are several people upset about us admin decisions in this thread that were not vocal with their displeasure when trump made the decisions he made regarding Afghanistan. Although we are all used to hypocrisy in politics it’s pretty bad right now. I guarantee half the cons upset on this thread would be much less vocal with a Republican president.
2500 is not enough to hold our position if the Taliban wanted to press the issue. Taliban were being passive waiting on us to honor the terms that Trump agreed to. Failure to live up to Trump's agreement would have resulted in larger scale assaults on the few troops that remain. Trump created the situation and Biden and Trump bungled the withdrawal by not getting more people out sooner. Obama and Trump screwed the pooch by failing to verify that the billions spent carried accountability with it. Obama had this fairy tell vision that everything needed to be routed through the central gubmnt and that failed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
This is frigging laughable ,when it comes putting our people in peril politics have no place. To assume this is disgraceful. I’m a vet and I’m super pissed and embrassed by the way this was handled. If that’s hypocrisy then so be it.
Are you superpissed that Trump negotiated with the Taliban without the afghan gubmnt at the table? Or that Trump agreed to release 5k taliban prisoners? Or that Trump drew down forces to the point that they wouldn't have been able to defend themselves against a taliban attack? Or that Trump did nothing to get any of the people that helped us out? Or that Trump left the kurds to be slaughtered by Assad and russian mercs? Or does none of that matter because .idk MAGA makes it all better?
What evidence do you have that 2500 troops was not enough or that additional troops could not quickly be added to address any threat?
Taliban has well over 100k troops blended into the population. Do you think 2500 could defend against 100,000 +? Would you be in favor of sending in another 30k troops and shedding more US blood to continue the battle? To what end?
You left out the 5 that Obama traded for the deserter! I know it was a honest brain fart. I guess that doesn’t matter to you.
What was the troop concentration of the 2500 troops versus 100000? And Why would 30000 additional troops be needed to evacuate people? Why do you assume an evacuation of Americans would result in an attack by the taliban.
I don’t. Both Trump and Biden failed when it came to getting people out. A failure to leave by end of August, ie, not honor Trump deal, would have resulted in attacks against US troops renewing. Trump should have begun evacuating US and friendlies the moment that he signed the deal with the Taliban. He didn't. Biden should have begun evac as soon as he took office. He didn’t. They both own this but Trump is the one who cut the deal that set this up and then refused to help anybody that had been helping us
Biden should have been getting people out because of how limited our troop strength was. We should never have depended on the Afghani army. My comments were more directed to the folks arguing that we should have left troops there because of the security situation.
The current chaos is primarily because of Biden’s inaction in January, February, March, April, May, June, and July of not evacuating the American citizens.
