You're correct, his political career is over. Not because he is any less conservative than he has always been but because he refuses to metaphorically kiss the huge rear end of the narcissistic de facto leader of the Republican Party. The Republican Party of today is not the conservative political party that it was under Ronald Reagan but rather a cult of personality centered around the worship of Donald Trump.

They worship Trump. They're pagans, not Christians. The theme of politics in the Bible is "don't be involved," and the Trumpers demonstrate the purpose of that message.
In some cases I think you are 100% right. Most are just fooled and deceived, but some know exactly what they are doing.
Yeah, several calls were from the same guy who kept calling AK a **** ****er. None of this should surprise anyone at this point. Much of that hate didn't seem to be illegal except for the guy repeatedly threatening to go after him. I would hope that authorities track him down. Although possible, I doubt these callers are doing much to hide where they're calling from.

Sadly, your view of the matter seems to be the minority on those who vote like you. I guess at a certain point, when a non trivial percent of the party think like this, to varying degrees, at what point does one just decide they don’t want anything to do with such people? Doesn’t mean you have to be a Democrat but I sure wouldn’t want to be affiliated with any of these people regardless of issues.
In my mind, there's not a nickel's worth of difference between moderate republicans and democrats. They worked together for generations to make America great. It's the extremists who have always been the problem. Right now, It's the republicans, and they seem bound determined to tear down what prior generations built into the envy of the world.
