That's going to piss off a few around here.
Which side is the quote helping? It says it was 6 years before SOS even listened to the NFL.
SOS gets a pass because of all the SEC championships. Hardware gets you passes, especially in hindsight.
Dan Mullen Coach of the Year? The reaction to that news was as negative as you’d expect
between the 2011 and 2012 seasons, Dabo
Fired OC Billy Napier
Fired DC Kevin Steele
Fired RB coach Andre Powell
OL coach Brad Scott “retired”
Hired unknown Chad Morris over Ralph Freigen as OC after being Tulsa OC for ONE year
Hired Tony Elliot as RB coach from FURMAN
Hired Robbie Caldwell as the OL coach
Hired former Duke co-defensive coordinator Marion Hobby as the new defensive line coach.
Hired Brent Venables as DC
Dude. I am the conductor of the Fire Grantham train. I aint condoning nothin'. Just saying OU is good.
Good point. So 30 years ago.
never lost to UK and I dont think Spurrier ever lost to a team with a losing record while at UF either
Mullen has been a college coach longer than SOS had been at that point.
It wasnt hindsight at the time lol. C'mon man. This will someday be hindsight too.
EXACTLY. I posted a link to a 2011 thread on Tiger Talk talking about Dabo's hot seat. He was in the same year as Dan, with less success.
Bet Clemson is glad they were patient.
Is that moving the goalposts? I care about UF.
True. Even as “bad” as LSU D was last year, they still only gave up 21 a game which was 32nd in the nation.
i’m tough on Mullen over in the Awesome Recruiting section of the board and while I can understand how the last few weeks have soured some on the future, but we def have to have a bit of perspective. Even looking as far as to next season. It’s a 3 game season if we’re all being honest and realistic with Bama visiting, us going to LSU, and playing Georgia. We’re probably not going to favored in all 3 of those games but those 3 aren’t unwinnable. Hell, lose the Bama game but win at LSU and UGA and you get Bama again in December. This team will be too talented and and experience not to be in Atlanta in 2021. Isn’t that what we all want?
We want him to recruit better right? You see so far we aren’t rushing to take pledges from just anyone and seem to be being more diligent this cycle. All we honestly ONLY need is the DT position to take the next step and we’ll be fine
But will mullens hindsight include championships?
Kentucky is a much tougher out now than they were back in the '90's. They flat out stunk.
Mullen cares about his life and his family. That is the point I am making. He doesn't look at his career as having restarted 3 years ago.
UF is a progression in an already successful career at MSU. Spurrier might have thought he wasn't ready for the NFL in 1996.
Maybe Dan after over a decade as an HBC feels he is.
The point is Dan and Steve both OPENLY entertained offers.
The fact is at the moment we know that Spurrier interviewed for at least 3 NFL Jobs while at UF,
while to our knowledge Mullen has interviewed for zero.
Here's the like to the award....

Gators HC Dan Mullen Named Pro Football Focus College Coach of the Year
"While the season didn't end quite the way many anticipated after the historical showcase the Florida Gators offense posted historical numbers en route to an SEC East title, the football program continues to receive accolades.
This time, Gators head coach Dan Mullen is being recognized by Pro Football Focus as the College Coach of the Year."
This may make some here look for a cliff.....
Newby fans don't get that man, come on now.
I look at it differently. To quote SOS, he didn't even listen to the NFL until he had won 5 SEC championships and a national championship? Mullen, while to our knowledge has interviewed 0 times, has 0 SEC championships and is fine with letting his name float.
Imo, take care of business where you are at and then look to the next challenge. And if its about family, the NFL ain't the place to go.
Come on Tilly we want a coach to bring us NC in 3 years winning every game by 20, then if they don't keep doing it can them.
