In the old days, when we lost out on a recruit, it was because we were out recruited. These days, the explanation is always about NIL. I don’t really know how we are supposed to tell these apart. I’m sure money plays a role, but why couldn’t Cormani have chosen Miami because Mario is a good recruiter? I have no idea why Rashada chose Miami at first or why he flipped to Florida later. I guess I must assume that us getting good players is a good thing. :emoji_no_good:

    Patience indeed!

If you act like a little girl and post negative things about recruits who go elsewhere then just stop. And if a player trolls us then they simply are Gator Bait, not UF material.

If a guy wants to play at the highest level and compete against the best and develop, he will sign with an SEC school. Also, don't believe any of the NIL figures you see.

45-3 against their biggest rival helped a lot, I'm sure. I think we never stopped recruiting this guy, just refused to negotiate with slimy agents.

It depends on his reasons I heard he was trying to flip in September and UF told him no so what changed? The money UF was offering or the kid realizing he wanted more than Ruiz money and to play in the SEC if he had a true change of heart and is now sure he wants to play for UF I say good for him he may have realized that money was not going to get him to the next level and that dumpster fire of an offense in Miami (3 points vs FSU) was not going to get him there. We all must remember he is 17!

This only applies if he took bigger NIl money. I don’t think we outbid Miami for him. I think he decided against the money on this one.

If he truly decided against the money to be a Gator, that shows maturity. I hope that’s the case. Either way, I’m glad we are able to go blow for blow with Ruiz. He had me a little nervous after McClain.

Not sure if this was a Ruiz/Hathcock battle. Kid wants to play in the SEC and Napier has ties to his family. Good get, let's hold him now.

The way to square this circle is to realize that the “we don’t want these NIL kids — they’re all terrible people and future clubhouse cancers” stuff was just coping and rationalization.

I might get laughed at for this, but I think much of this whole thing about fans goes back to when Gator fans were seemingly a different breed. 59 years waiting for our first SEC Championship - packing The Swamp back in the 60s and 70s and making it “the most hostile piece of real estate in the country” even though we were never in contention for a championship of any kind. Swaying arm and arm and singing “We Are The Boys” in all kinds of weather, every game, win or lose. Then finally experiencing the sweet rewards of all the waiting when it finally came together for us in the 90s. I’ll declare from experience that nobody appreciated a championship like we Gator fans did in 1991 — and beyond. 4 in a row, then our first NC. If any group of fans was deserving of all the euphoria it was long-suffering loyal Gator fans ….. We believed we were special and we were.

Of course then appreciation for success gave way to expectation of success in our fan base. The newbies who became Gator fans in the glorious 90s had no appreciation for how freaking hard it is to not only build a championship team, but then win one with it. After 6 decades of wanting, our fan base became spoiled inside of 10 years. Say what you want, but this tarnished the shine in the eyes of our beloved coach. He left and 4 years later Urban Meyer re-established UF at the top of the mountain. You know the rest.

Our fan base was never going to be the same again. Those of us who remember the past still hang onto the idea that we’re special, and every time we realize we aren’t, we bash the spoiled fan base of today. That’s what you’re hearing out of some old farts on this board, and Dooley, and others. The balance of our current fan base who only know championships look at it differently. Our perspectives are different because our backgrounds and frames of reference are so different. It’s unavoidable.

    Go Gators

I certainly think our fanbase was different in the 80s and especially 90s. We were a rabidly thirsty base and after a glimpse in the 80s that was derailed by the powers that be, spurrier reinvigorated that belief that our time had come. Less distractions back then as well so football was THE focus come Saturday. Meyer's success probably fed an entitlement to the fan base but then again maybe it should have. The elite programs expect to win and Florida had no reason to be outside of that group. We might have our nuances as a base but any base especially in the day and age of social media is going to have negative sentiments when things don't go as expected and it simply hasn't for Florida for the majority of the past decade plus. People forget where Bama was for nearly 2 decades prior to Saban. Their base was a mess and it still is when they lose 1 game.

Yep - and fans are also influenced by Spurrier and Meyer who liked to win and twist the knife, and were easy for non-Gators to hate. Even our last 3 coaches engaged in bad behavior at times.

Perhaps our current coach will calm the waters.

Didn't we establish that he wasn't that good and we didn't even want him?

    Oh well. Welcome aboard Jaden!

Accurate, has great touch. Almost all his Junior Szn highlights show a pretty clean pocket. Definitely has had a good O-line to play behind.

Rashada must not have been reading these boards when many here were fiercely trashing him.

He has the Wuerffel long ball arc to his passes. looks to drop them right over defenders' heads. Great for endzone corner routes, and fade routes.
