The list does suggest a focus on offensive linemen, that's for sure. So glad big Phil is on board! In many ways UF's fall from the top 10 of college football may be attributed to shortcomings at this position group. And, ahhhhh "coaching".
It'll be the bump class that tells the tale: finish in the middle of the SEC pack again like 2025-26 and things will be pretty much remain the same.
Yeah Crusher, you won't get an argument from me about your recruiting post. I will somewhat disagree about things remaining pretty much the same, regarding on field performance and record, in that it would be hard for CJS and staff to perform as badly as Billy Napier and Co. Put in a Southern colloquial way: (CJS speaking) "I could beat you'uns with mine or take your'uns and beat you with them too"
We had 5 OL added, which naturally reduces the average recruit ranking for your class, but only 4 in the SEC had a higher average ranking per player and Georgia was only negligibly above us and Texas below us, so moaning about 25-26 in a transition class is not well placed and being in that position annually will help us, not hurt us.
I'm optimistic that Sumrall will be a better coach than the last one. I'm not optimistic that the Administration will provide adequate support for his efforts. The next class will go a long way toward determining whether UF can take a step back into the top half of the SEC or remain maddeningly mediocre.
Money, sweet talk and great coaching wont do anything without the checks. Its nice to see him recruiting good oline but ill be convinced when i see them in gator uniforms. Until then, its just talk.
Sure, if you are recruiting the level OLinemen UF has been (only 1 top 300 player in the latest class). IF the rankings are somewhat accurate, which the OSU's and Georgia's of the world would indicate they are, then consistently finishing about mid-pack in your own conference doesn't generally lead to any hardware. UF is going to need to step up in leadership AND talent to move up in the SEC standings. And just to be clear, I'm referring to both the HS and transfer class, not just HS recruiting.
I e always thought that quote was total bs. If you taking comparable rosters, of course the better coach wins but theres never been a coach that coukdve won a ship with the rosters weve had. We have some elite talent no doubt but we dont have a championship roster. We will be lucky to have a top ten in the sec oline next year. Trautwein is good but he doesnt have the talent.
There is definitely what I would call a "coaching bump." Cignetti proved that. Trying to consistently be a playoff contender with consistently average talent isn't generally possible even for the greatest coaches.
Cig obviously can coach and Cuban gave him the roster he asked for. Players dont always pan out but portal guys are older and proven. Hs is a crap shoot.
Well, I don't disagree. And if I am to be honest, right now, based on who was retrained, the recruiting class we brought in, and the transfer portal additions - Let me put it this way. Some Gator pod caster's, and some posters here, are kicking around 9 - 3. Based on what? Don't get me wrong, I like our guy, I like the staff he is bringing in, and I like the energy. I know Gator Nation's patience is paper thin, but based on your own posts, and looking at the projected roster, where is the beef? I.M.O. Linebacker and Receivers look solid. But not super deep. Edit - foolish me, left out running backs - respect to Jadan Baugh. Everywhere else (position groups) its hard to determine. Do I WANT UF to be 9-3? Damn right. Do I think that will happen?, NO, not in 26. I think that ceiling is too high. I think CJS has some heavy lifting to undo the Napier legacy. Crusher is right, we need to see that 2nd year HS class recruiting bump, UF to show it's on the upswing on the field, and to slay the portal, to make noise in 27. Of course Indiana demonstrated what is possible, Heck Norvell and FSU did that a few years ago, and I'm not saying it is impossible for UF to win 9 or 10 in 26 but I'm not counting on it, I like 27 for the real comeback year in UF's football fortunes. We will see what Vegas says but I will be shocked if we are predicted in the top 8 of the SEC preseason standings come fall camp.
We dont have a proven tackle on the roster and at defensive tackle, we let our best one be bought by ol miss for gods sake. It doesnt even look like they are going to be given a roster capable of winning championships. 9-3 seems to be the goal, not the floor. 9-3 is the floor that gets coaches fired at legit programs ..
