Thats almost all defensive and over multiple classes. A few reaches in there as well like Jordan Young and others. Not one person claims he didnt have ANY talent just that class numbers were built with bad takes and our offensive talent was horrendous when he left.
Im guilty as any here of being off topic. Im sure the thread will get locked if we dont get back on Haven.
You guys talk like he was left a FAU roster, no coach taking over year 1 has a built roster. He had plenty of pieces and a championship coach would have realized the talent on his roster and added to it quickly. Billy did the opposite and you know it.
Powell left because Princely took his starting spot Tarquin transferred to USCw then transferred to OK only to go undrafted. Joshua Braun is now on his 3rd team (2 since leaving UF) McClellan had 2.5 sacks last year 1 vs. Murray st. 1 vs UMass and 0.5 vs buffalo. Only 10 solo tackles last year. Scooby ended up with 10 less tackles and 2 less FF than his last year at UF, which going by his PFFgrade he was one of our biggest liabilities. Jaydon Hill last season at A&M statistically don't compare to either of his last 2 seasons at UF. He notched less tackles, less passes defended, less INT's. Johnson has done well but his last season at Mizzou looks identical to his last season at UF. Powell McMillan Princely Hopper They each did well after wards with Princely being the main reason powell left, but the other guys mentioned all either put up equal or worse statistics than when they were at UF. You'd expect an older, more experienced version of their selves would surpass the play they had at UF. While they were serviceable they didn't have seasons that make you regret losing them. Than there are some guys that would have transferred out regardless like Braun and tarquin who just became one and dones at multiple schools once they left UF. ,
If you want to keep praising Dan Mullen’s recruiting debacle prepare to wait a long time before I dedicate one more rational thought to this discussion
Mullen was a crappy recruiter and yet here we are with our 3 best players being his. I think I’m making a bigger statement about Billy. Mullen is irrelevant.
The only point I’ll agree with is your last statement - Mullen is irrelevant. Your criticisms regarding Billy’s recruiting are totally unfounded
You can't debunk actual ratings.....you can still look them up on 247. If you want to do a retrospective it would be more fair to compare them to a similar retrospective evaluations of what happened to the classes signed by other teams. Its pretty clear that Mullen's classes, whatever the ranking and whatever the reason, mostly didn't pan out. What happened after they signed is certainly a reason we have new coaches now.
The NIL money grab had just started, and teams were poaching the Gator players left and right. And the last coaching staff never really cared if their players left UF. It was a combination of a few bad events for Napier and his staff. Speaking of the staff, he also couldn't afford the coaches he wanted, which hurt the team and the program as bad as anything early on in his tenure. That was all out of his hands, and not of his doing. So... it took some time to get the players and coaches that he wanted. He has no excuses, and now he has a clean slate as far as I'm concerned. The real change started one third into the season last year, when SS and the AA finally got behind Napier, and also when we settled on one DC... Rob Roberts. Things started to click after the A&M game when we won two in a row. But we lost to UGA and Texas with a second string newbie at QB... At that point in time, we just weren't up for those games. But now with Ron Roberts in full command of the defense, and over an entire off season of his scheme. I also think we will come out on defense with a sense of urgency, unlike last year when we made several unforced errors from player personnel/groupings and rotations to schemes. That defense will take another step into greatness, which we saw flashes of in that second half of the season... especially in the games against LSU and Ole Miss. And now you can thank Napier for being the architect of the whole football program. Our offense needs to be unpredicable, and our defense needs to play stout. Two things that will take the Gators a long way from where Napier started. Long gone is that nasty rebuild in year one. The first year that encompassed many new staff members, and the first of many new talented players signed. The administration and their true support came around... late, but it came nonetheless. Through it all, Napier has been progressing to where he and this program are today. Enjoy the ride, I know I will. .
Please quote the lie I’ve told. The record is the record. The best players are the best players. I haven’t made one false statement.
Those you mentioned are literally probably the oldest and most experienced players on the team. CBN will have much more than just those 3 be selected all SEC, many will be high draft picks, and some of our most talented players we've recruited.... since the urban era have come from the last 2 classes and they are just becoming sophmores and freshman.
As I read this exchange, I’m conjuring up images of another annoying THFSG resident who shows up here just to argue.
