Interesting that a highly acclaimed HS player like Lujo from Stoneman Douglas would go to Dayton. Good stats, defense could use some work but a position of need for sure. .
Good DNA, with ex major leaguer Rennie Stennett as a grandfather. I see Vandy is also in the mix. Come on down son.

I want to ask @74nole what he thinks of the mechanics with that picture.

Philpott is in the portal - not much of a surprise there either.

You already know the answer. There are only so many bad pitches in a good arm—then it’s a bad arm.

I wish him well unless he is pitching against the Gators.

Do we really have a pitching coach to fix this? Sully is a catcher.

Maybe the picture is a one off and not his delivery, but it he is throwing 96 mph like that he can be really coached up.

It’s tough to pitch anywhere without command.

It definitely can be fixed. But it can’t be fixed with analytics. Again, you’ve got to teach your guys what they’re asking their bodies to do to the point they understand. All six points of good mechanics have to be implemented. They are all necessary. There are no shortcuts.

You’ve got to be able to make adjustments with the pitch count running. Velocity is great but if you don’t command/control it then it’s going to become inefficient. If you can’t command/control your off speed pitches then they won’t keep the hitters honest and off of your fastball.

Do we have a pitching coach who teaches this? That’s a really great question. I know my answer.

    Simply put—pitch don’t throw.

Analytics tell you what to throw in certain counts to certain batters.

But you need proper mechanics to throw the right pitch at the right times.

    Hand in glove.

They say that soccer (futbol) is the beautiful game but well played baseball is tops.

But we really might have gotten the kid throwing his worst pitch all year.

    It did look ugly.

Maybe he got crossed up and bailed on it.

It does look ugly. I don’t think it’s anything to do with being crossed up though. This is what is popular today. Everybody has attempted to copy what they see Paul Skenes doing. I get it, he’s impressive, he’s flashy, he’s cool, he throws 102, he’s got a pretty girl…..

But sad to say, him included—the way he (they) are finishing they are putting ALL of the deceleration and shock of throwing the baseball onto three muscles in the arm instead of using the strongest parts of the body being the back and legs to absorb the shock. Shoulders and elbows to follow.

P.S. I’m watching the RHP for Oregon St vs FSU right now and he’s doing the exact same thing mechanically we’re discussing.

The way Skenes pitches he might not last long.

But damn he was a great collegiate pitcher.

Big time if he doesn't sign. However I have to think Sully wouldn't have taken this if he didn't think he had a chance.

Maybe he just fielded a ground ball and was getting the force out at home? Lol
