I get the general mood here, but Philpott didn't really regress - he was just the same pitcher that we saw in his freshman year. I don't think Fisher improved much after transferring either.

No, not really. 5 era. lost spot in rotation, & only 2 appearances last month were up 6-0 in 7th vs Vols & up 10-0 v NCST in 6th. Still to many BBs, and when v-lo tops out at 90 , have to be almost perfect w/ location.

Neither did Fabian for that matter..lol Great in field, only 3 or 4 E 6s all year I think.. but hit .243, did have 40+ rbi though.

I think they are both what they are regardless whos coaching them

    Good observation GC—

Philpott has very doable talent but is not any closer to establishing command/control/confidence honestly than when he arrived.

I’m going to go ahead and say this. He and Liam Peterson have the true lack of command in common with each other. If both of them truly commands their respective games they could both approach the status of being elite. It takes a lot of fine tuning to reach and maintain that level of play.

If the right work is done it can be reached and maintained IMO.

Would you say that “stuff” is the difference maker between Philpott and Peterson then?

Yeah you’re right looking back at it. Walk rate did go down slightly but the batting average against and ERA were just a tad higher. Only notable difference was the strikeout rate which increased.

Nope, as far as FB velocities Peterson tops out at 98 and Philpott tops out at 96—to me that’s splitting hairs. Actually my point wasn’t pointing out any difference maker—I was pointing out that they both struggle with the ability to command the strike zone.

Both have the ability to dominate but they make it tough on themselves constantly facing a 2-0 count. If you have to pitch consistently in hitter’s counts you’re in for a rough day. If you’re able to stay in attack mode by pitching in pitcher’s counts you obviously are paving your own way to a better result.

One sign of dementia is remembering way back being easy but remembering recent things is harder.

Last year I turned 70 and my primary care doc said that it was time for a neurological evaluation. My short term memory was off the charts good.

David. It's understandable, there are lots of Wheeler's running around Middleburg from what I hear. Ethan's a good kid, knows how to pitch and compete. If he makes it to campus he will be a good addition.

No surprise but Gomberg (LHP) is the first Gator to hit the portal.

I just turned 70 last year also, and my short and long term memories are both bad. What's that a sign of?

I don't worry about it much because most of the time I don't remember.

Exit interviews were today so get ready for the portal declarations. Guessing we’ll lose 7-10 guys to the portal, mainly to make room for new faces.

Gomberg is a Stoneman Douglas kid and UF took a flyer on him. Being we’ve taken Clemente, Rodriguez and Chris Arroyo (who left UF and went JUCO for a season before ending up at Virginia this past year) from the same high school, it was probably worth the shot.
