(SOC) 2025 Soccer Thread

Yep - He waited a couple of years too long to push Becky Burleigh out the door and then made a terrible choice for her replacement. We used to dominate the SEC and now we're maybe the 5th best program in the state and near the bottom of the league. Embarrassing.

 

This is bad. She should be fired tomorrow.

 

This loss ranks up there as one of her worst. Ga State in Downtown Atlanta - where do they practice, on the street in front of the gym? She will make it to the end of the year and I would be willing to bet she gets one more year as SS has little desire to release anyone as demonstrated by his continued support of CBN.

 

We had 18 shots, 14 corners, held them to 5 shots and 2 corners and still lost the game. That should never happen.

 

Can Napier coach soccer? Couldn't do worst.

 

Totally forgot to watch, but assumed we would win by 2-3 goals.

Coaches clearly aren't prepared to coach at this level. Recruiting has to get better.
Not to be harsh, but GA state recruits on a 3rd tier compared to UF and SEC schools.
There is no excuses for florida not to be a top 3 SEC team.

I think our RPI before this loss was 60, we are already looking on the outside. This team can't even make the dang SEC tourney. That should be the easiest of tasks.

 

I had this one chalked up as a win. There were going to be some good vibes going into SEC play at 5-2 with some momentum, but that is all gone now.

Look I'm not asking for national titles, we have one, and the only one in the sec.
i just think we should be competitive week to week, we are the premier institution in the state academically and athletically, and a minimum we should be always in the top 1/2 of the sec by just showing up.

look its soccer, your gonna lose games or tie them where you are clearly the better teams. Teams pack it in and make you beat them, and put 11 behind the ball. Unfortunately the college game mimics the US national team -- it's about effort, running around like a crazy person, pace and athleticism. Keep the ball when you need to, but get forward rely on athleticism.

Honestly, I don't care much about style of play anymore, just play how you have to play to win each game -- have some sort of decency with your style of play, build out, keep the ball, and get forward, and then defend as a unit. That is where Becky's time had come and it was clear for her to move on, we would be down 2-0 and she would just have the girls keep the ball and play negative as if there was some award for time of possession or consecutive passes made.

In general, I think it is a general problem with the current generation of male and female players -- they were trained as robots, and play the way they are facing. They play negative for no reason vs receiving a ball and turning up and attacking space. Especially in the offensive half -- receive the ball and go at someone, make them make a play, pass and move. However, what happens is you make a forward pass, and the mid fielder receives the ball, and just goes negative again. The world got obsessed with playing like Barcelona and spain in their dominance.
I also hate seeing players not using the width of the field, open up on the sideline and receive the ball - get wide and create space. Everything is getting squeezed in way to soon.

Looking for some silver lining; during into, announcers said our coach thinks we have the best SEC recruiting class next year.
