I understand your points, but Vanderbilt still was #1 in RPI & #2 in SOS. Texas was #4 in RPI, #19 in SOS. That's why Vandy got the overall #1 seed, in spite of the valid facts you gave. Some are dissing Auburn, but they had the #3 RPI ranking and #1 SOS. The selection committee rewarded that. The #16 seed, to me, just came down to the committee wanting to have a non-SEC team in that slot. Florida is #17 in the RPI, #3 SOS. Southern Miss #19 RPI, #67 SOS. So, no doubt, the Gators were more deserving, but I think they put a cap on how many SEC teams were going to host. However, I think it works out better for Florida. I would rather have us matching up with the Auburn Regional winner in a Super than the Vandy Regional winner.
2 acc, 2 sec, 2 mids, 2 out west.. Its a made for tv format/event, might as well keep most of country interested.. Bama 13 rpi, not that big of a stretch i dont think..And if I had a least favorite ncca baseball team, vandy would certainly be a finalist..lol Also bama lowest rpi(by a lot) w/ sec winning record not to host.. they should be extra motivated .. and i just hope they do well.. helps AU & v/v
I can live with Coastal winning their regional, but after what happened in the ASun Tournament, I think it's garbage that Stetson got the autobid. Play the game, wait a day, wait two days, but play the game. Otherwise, give it to Austin Peay for the best regular season record. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
No arguement here. much prefer. ncca rule says bid has to be in by midnight.. I guess took best team of ones left. AP lost to both. so ??? heres an idea, make reg season winner the auto bid in every conf. . They asked the Healey guy from d1 today..a 3 seed you can see winning regional? he said Stetson quicker than I could..lol Hatters do have 3rd worst rpi of the 3 seeds though 63.. behind ECU 66, & Rhd Ils 68.
Yea, I recall you not having any love for Vandy and not surprised with the Bama pick. Im sure you have watched a lot more of these teams than me, but I was not impressed by the little I have seen of bama, but then again I say that most years. Maybe one year they will surprise me.
In conferece sos.. they told us all year this would be a big factor, & was. AU & Vandy were # 1-2 in this. Not sure where Texas ranked in this, but LSU was near bottom & Ole Miss was last. If played the bottom 2 or 3 in standings then you were probably near the bottom in sec sos, and were dinged for it. Only issue I have with this is its random. My biggest issue are ones w/ ooc sos in the mid 200s,,ie LSU. AU also had best ooc sos in sec(#58),hence the #1 overall sos. I may be wrong but pretty sure Bama was their next host(sec record & sec sos), & why went to #16..But I agree S Miss was their anual mid major host site this year As far as going to Vandy or AU. Wont argue that, but AU hasnt lost home series since sometimes last year(which included Vandy this year). Problem is getting through the lil league format to get to best of 3 series.
Agree Bama was nothing special in the eyeball test,, I like their 1-2 SPs, and a top heavy lineup.. But as D1 guys say, the committee isnt watching games all year,, 95% metrics. Glad Cade Snell doing well this year.. never saw field at Auburn.
Think baseball is their only D1 sport.. Mens hoops went to the D2 F4. no womens team, nor football or softball teams.
Nice effort to offer a field unlike most of those from paid writers and avid fans. All of the teams you named have a good chance of winning Regionals and 2-3 of the teams you named may get to the CWS, but I think more college baseball fans would be more interested in seeing the CWS have the best teams performing at high skill levels. That's what makes the CWS so popular, including years when the finalists are both SEC if they're the best teams from the best conference. While I pay better attention myself when the Gators make the CWS field, I don't find your list especially interesting. A couple of Cinderalla teams might add to pre-CWS interest, but Coastal's win was well earned and it's usually teams that are consistently good that get to the CWS and win championships. To name an entire field of teams (good teams) that ALL perform above expectations is a fun fantasy. I think you used the term "made for tv format/event" as a positive assessment of such a field, but many people might use the same words as an insult.
So you didnt like them?.. lol They were same picks i entered at d1s contest a few minutes prior to sharing here. Entire logic was if I thought 1 seed might lose they probably did, w/ a little preference mixed in. Not much more, but looking for a $$ contest if know of any..or h2h.. take my $. I didnt even notice the break down until pointed out only 2 sec teams(been anti sec for 40 years so no surprise there) then noticed the 8 were also pretty spread out, so the keep country interested comment/joke. Ive called this format and every college post season made for tv(not best team) for years.and have said it on here few times. But I couldnt care less who makes cws outside of couple teams.(none of which i have in) or who fans want to see. If they want to know best team they are 56 games late. Now we find hottest. -- the worst rpi of my 8 is #22.. Almost took Neastern over Org St.. I dodged a bullet there.
I think it's wide open this year. I could see a 2 seed or even a 3 seed make it to Omaha. Now which ones? UF would be my choice for the 2 seed, unsure about the 3 seed and doubt it happens.
3 seed Miss St going with bullpen guy Ben Davis v N'Eastern. He does have a couple starts on year. Did MSU get the memo N'eastern has nation low ERA 2.96?? If it works out, Kohn vs Arnold will be a good one..I assume Noles are holding him
My predictions: Vanderbilt > Alabama FSU > OrSt Auburn > UF UNC > Arizona UC-Irvine > Texas Georgia Tech > Georgia Arkansas > UTenn LSU > Clemson Side 1: FSU (3-0) > Auburn Side 2: Arkansas (4-1) > LSU, after losing the first game to them Championship: Arkansas (2-0) > FSU Bonus: It will be clear to anyone who watched the games that Arkansas beat two teams better than FSU before the finals. Human polls will rate FSU #2 anyway.
