I understand your point but the truth is when a player rolls the dice and chooses to come back and play his senior year—unless he has a barn storm of a senior year he will have lost all of his leverage. It becomes take it or leave it.

Wish all of them the best.

And with the new roster limits we would lose some young guys we may want

Yup, Shelton would lose all leverage if he comes back and unless he is demanding over slot money, would not have been drafted where he was if he wasn’t satisfied with the $400K.

Clemente actually is a draft eligible SO and has leverage but again, the Marlins knew his asking price and the $300K slot money likely meets those demands. Some kids are just ready to move on to pro ball.

Corey Braun, the ex-USF and SFCC pitcher who recently entered the portal and who was thought to be a possibility for UF, was just drafted in the 8th round by Oakland. Looks like he is moving on to pro ball.

    nope
Heyman hasn't either. Starting to think he could come back and get a better deal next year. Potential All-SEC catcher could make good money even as a senior. Its in the 9th round 200K range currently.

Heyman turned 22 this month- already a bit old for the draft. If not selected in draft, he can sign as a free agent or he may conclude that his chances at the next level are slim and choose to play another year college ball (like Riopelle) but with no intention to play pro ball.

I haven't been following the draft closely, but does anyone know if any of our high school commits other than Yost have been drafted yet?

I assume teams are stockpiling slot money and cash reserves in anticipation of Jacob Gomberg entering the draft next year.

Riopelle was a rarity as the dream of most every college baseball player is to play at the professional level. If Heyman wants to get drafted and pocket the $150K, I’m sure there will be several clubs willing to pay. If he wants more and no one is willing to dip into their pool money, he goes back to school. Either way, I’m sure he’s eager to start his pro career be it this summer or next.
