I think that was the point. Deadline was revised in latest contract negotiations. Draft is later than usual, but they wanted decisions on or about the same time.

Anyone named Clemente would be a guy that catches my attention. Roberto was a great ballplayer and great humanitarian. If this Clemente is 10% of Roberto he will be a great ball player and a great person.

Clemente forgoing the draft and enrolling here is huge.

Almost for sure would have been a top draft choice.

This class, though smaller than previous ones, has some curious prospects in it.

The highest rated one I could see is Xavier Isaac out North Carolina. 6-3 230 slugger slated to be a 2nd, 3rd rounder.

Catcher Luke Heyman is a good one. Certainly a position of need. He's ranked in one poll as #193. Does that translate to 7th round or so?

I haven’t tried to map the correlation. I am sure it exists but the R^2 likely isn’t great. As @74nole likes to say here, the business of the game comes into play.

If Person A will sign for $50K, his draft position might increase compared to someone who is expecting $1M. Depends on so many factors.

Pure math, it would probably be about the 6th round as there are compensatory picks in the first few rounds based on free agent losses and inability to sign prior picks. So it isn’t 30*7 = 210.

Can't I be right sometimes!!! Geez it's called spin and I'm not talking about the rate a which a ball turns when its released by a pitcher. Enjoy...

Am I misremembering? The last two Gator position players taken in either of the first two rounds (that signed) won ROY right?

Richie Martin was in the 1st round but the year before Alonso.

Would be cool if Sterlin can match India and Alonso!!!

Another perspective of the draft that I have observed over the years—again, it relates to the game of baseball vs the business of baseball….

It’s been my observation that players (especially the ones who have been brought up in the game with ol’school approaches) have a strong desire to see where/how they match up with the other best players out there with regards to the number/position/slot that they are chosen in.

The plain and simple (also disheartening) truth is these guys never truly have the opportunity to see how they truly match up talent wise largely because of the word signability. Thus the business side of the game steps in and takes over IMHO.

It is just my belief that every single competitive ball player wants to know where and how he stacks up against the rest of the best of his time era of players.

A fascinating way of following the draft Is to see highly rated players falling and not being drafted when they were projected to be taken. A strong indication they've told the pros they are headed to school.

This happened to JJ Schwartz who was thought to be a 2nd rounder. The draft proceeded and around the 7th round it was announced his parents said he was headed to Gainesville.

    Loved it
