As of Sunday 7/18, the only Gators who have actually signed pro contracts are Christian Scott and Andrew Painter.

In general, expect a fair amount of late action.

In the vein of things that make you go hmmm…..

I noticed that at the top of the 6th round with pick #163 Pittsburgh selected Mike Javis, SS from San Diego State—

The slotted bonus was $315,400. Javis signed for $7,500—

Wonder what the underlying current was for that?

WOW - was he a true Senior with no option to return to school????
Even if you're going to screw someone, do it gentler than that.

Still a couple weeks left. Things may change. It would be a real shock to me if he came back. Something like 1% of those drafted in the top 10 rounds don’t sign. Odds aren’t good statistically…

    No surprise here.
But remember this gives Boston more money to throw at Hickey.

    Knowles signed today.

JUCO kids aren't in top 500 because they only list HS. We want Guilliams.

If we only get one, Hickey is my choice.

High School Gator signee Chase Petty signed with the Twins yesterday for $2.5 million. The only drafted Gators left unsigned are Fabian (2nd round), Hickey (5th round), JUCO RHP Shawn Guilliams (11th round) and high school signees RHP Kyle Larsen (18th round) and OF Ty Evans (20th round). And even though we lost our top 4 high school signees to MLB (Painter, Petty, Allen & Fox), the guys still coming are a solid group that should provide immediate help on the mound and in the field.

    KG—

If we read the same article at issue appears to be the Mets interpretation of Rocker’s physical (concerns of his right elbow) and Rocker’s camp voicing that there is no concern.

Ahhh, the business of baseball vs the game of baseball.

    Mat—

IMHO any redirect is possible in the business side of the game. It has long been a common move to question the results of a physical exam of a higher profile player. This is just another way in negotiations to drive the price down.

I say this from personal experience with Alan’s HS draft in 2001. We had been strongly led to believe that the Mets were leaning toward taking Alan with their first pick in the first round. The day before the draft a scout from another team called and asked for Alan to submit to an MRI of his shoulder. We answered we didn’t have anyone on retainer to get that done and read in half a day—draft him if you want him.

Alan ended up going at pick #27 to Cleveland. Later that year I saw the scout that called/requested the MRI at Chipola. I asked him to explain the call—he just looked at me and answered it was just a ploy to drive Alan’s price down. I invited him to the parking lot—he went the other way and disappeared.

That's crazy. He was lucky you were willing to meet in the parking lot. I might have been tempted to drive down his price right then and there.

    Bill;

That story is crazy, nuts and SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you recall what position the Met's #1 pick was compared to Cleveland's???? I guess I am asking did this BS tactic cost Alan any money and how much. Please feel free to let me know this is none of my business...............

    Stu—

It’s water under the bridge or old history now filed away with everything else we have encountered. But for clarity the Mets first pick in the first round of the 2001 MLB draft was #18. Cleveland actually had two first round picks in 2001 due to a trade of a tier one player the previous year.

I won’t get into calling the name of the scout that called requesting the MRI—I will only say he was a Royal ass…..

Can’t say what it may or may not have costs Alan as we never had the opportunity to sit down with the Mets.
