Agreed. A lot of big league pitchers still struggle with that though.
Two of the guys drafted today, Antonio Knowles & Shawn Gilliams, were JUCO transfers. I'd never heard of them until today.
GatorsTerritory - Antonio Knowles drafted in 13th round by Los Angeles Dodgers
Prep Baseball Report - Player: Shawn Guilliams
16.2 K/9IP for Knowles! Wow. I don’t know the competition but it doesn’t much matter with numbers like that.
I’m sure @74nole has never heard of them either
Mace finished his career with a 4.37 ERA and only has good stuff as opposed to great. He ate a lot of innings and was a good Gator, but at the end of the day he really just never made it as a Friday night starter.
Tend to agree. Mace was a good pitcher with a lot of fire. But he wasn't Logan Shore, Brady Singer, Nick Faedo or others we've had who consistently had solid outings of 6,7 or 8 innings.
So did we come out of the draft ok? I know they need to sign or not but what are you guys thinking?
It appears we're going to get several high school signees that many thought would get drafted fairly high and not come to school, possibly as many as 7, including an outfielder, catcher and 5 pitchers. Still to be determined if any of the current players and signees who were drafted will forego going pro and return to Florida, but probably not many, if any, will do that.
Knowles and Gilliam are both JUCO transfers who committed to Florida . Perfect game has Evans ranked 121 as an OF/RHP and Larsen ranked 258 as a RHP. It would be nice to keep all 4 but I suspect we would be lucky to keep the JUCO guys.
Barrels if he gets 6th year
Halter-Don’t care about his age.
Guscette- Don’t care if he’s a sophomore. He’s a winner.
Gonna be some real competition at catcher when Rene Lastres arrives. Considered one of the best defensive catchers easily from this class.
Now, I share your view of Guscette. Rather good.
Angels took a P w/ every pick.
Maybe they don’t trust their guys to rate position players now…..
Figure if they draft enough of them, they will find another Ohtani in there somewhere.
When you gotta go, you gotta go.
Asking again, what is the final bill/damage from the draft and how do things look for ‘22?
Go back and read through the threads.
I’m pretty sure that they’ve got until Aug 01 to decide which they’re going to go.
This as a final bill really can't be answered until the first day of fall classes to see who stays, goes, and is added to the team. Otherwise its all speculation. I believe we are mostly pleased by the draft having lost the ones we expected and kept more of the signees that we thought. What we don't know are the ones who choose to come back or for go the pros. Let's revisit this in August.
August 15th or first day or class, whichever comes first, is what I read.
