He will need to move back to 2b IMo.. Made me nervous at SS all year w/ throws.(great glove),,,No idea how he was 1st team All Def.. but no idea how he wasnt 1st team SS in general.
Another point to look for is players being passed over their presumed draft spot. Meaning...they've told pros they will be going to school. I watched this happen to JJ Schwartz. He was considered a second round pick. The draft continued to the 7, 8th round without him being picked which drew a lot of curiosity here. Then the announcement - Schwartz is headed to Gainesville. That was fun to follow.
Gators not getting too much love here- Jud #40 pick - slot value is $1,856,700 and should be able to negotiate upward to maybe $2M ? Mace goes #69 -- slot value about $1M.... and not much leverage.
I would imagine Mace is gone, even though he was projected to go around pick 40-45. Fabian may still go pro, but there's still a chance he could come back for another year if the money isn't where he wants it to be, especially considering that pre-season he was a projected Top 5 pick and could work his way back there for the 2022 draft. Wishful thinking?
Both should and will go pro. I really would like JY back another year. I think he will be somebody's draft steal this year or next year. He is talented, but also has an IT factor that does not show up on combine type numbers.
Mace is gone-- he'll be 23 later this year- that would work against him and he needs another situation to develop further. Jud has more leverage but my take- he is probably gone if he can negotiate a slight bump in slot value. We'll see.
Agree both Jud and Mace should and will sign. Also would like to see JY return. Heart and soul of team.
SS Jake Fox pick in 3rd round, #95 (ranked #198 player by MLB.com pre-draft) by the Indians. Slot value $610,800. They're now in Round 4 and no other Gator players or signees drafted yet.
I am still trying to figure out who is going to pitch for us next year. Right now I have you pencilled in as the Sunday starter.
Barco and Sproat will be studs. Not sure if Alemon will be coming back. I really am rooting for Manning. Leftwich has not been drafted. I really don't see him coming back, but you never know.
Could we possibly be getting in to signability territory with some of our guys? It’s still early, but guys like Robertson, Abner, Coppola, Caglione and even Hickey have a tough decision if they think they can move up after a productive college career. The longer this goes, the more confident I feel about Gator Baseball making a return to the top sooner rather than later.
Hickey was just picked in the 5th round, #136, by the Red Sox. Christian Scott #142 by the Mets. Hickey's slot value is $410,000, Scott's $386,600.
