I’d really like to have Gibbs
I'm sure this will help [sacrcasm].
I don't think this is right. While we do have a poor offensive line, we've got a lot of talent coming in and a OL coach with a great reputation. Within reason, raw number of touches don't matter as much as the quality of touch...so 10-15 good touches are much more attractive than 25 tough ones. To say it differently, are we running in unpredictable ways where a RB can get a big one, or are we just running into disadvantaged fronts because we insist on balance. I think with a DT QB we are actually much more unpredictable. Depth should work in our favor, as we are already short in numbers and have a non-trivial chance of seeing a transfer.
My pet theory is pretty boring. When we had Lee committed, we went all in on Bowman and thought worst case we at least had Lee. Knox just isn't a good enough recruiter to make up ground when both Plan A and Plan B fail, and the recruiting staff was getting revamped right when we should have been actively scouting to expand the board.
I think an issue bigger than our OL are the three 4-star RBs we have coming back next year, AND Malik Davis, and none of the 4 will be SRs. Not really an enticing depth chart to a HS kid.
Candy, any whispers on how the EJ Smith visit went during the AU game? I really have a tepid feeling about our chances with him. Could use some encouragement if there is any to share.
I don’t think a top tier recruit would believe for a second that he wouldn’t play ahead of all those guys on day one. Not a knock on our players or potential recruits. That’s just the mindset of pretty much all 4-5* kids.
None of our players have proven much. They show potential and behind an OL at their floor but still a small sample size.
I agree with that to some extent, and I'm sure the highest rated kids figure they'll get their shot to show they should be the man even if not starting.
Still, if you look at Clemsons RB board for example, assuming Etienne leaves early they're only left with two 4*'s and none rated higher than Pierce.
Rough touches can be good touches though. Lol
Uh, LSU and ugaly have multiple, better underclassmen RB's every year and yet still pull in 1-2 top guys every year. So it's got to be more than that.
Amazing isn’t it, highly ranked players but no top trophies.
Must be a coaching problem.
Im glad we have CDM and Company.
From what I can remember seeing somewhere, it as just the standard lip service about him having a great visit and all that other recruit speak. Nothing really TRULY insightful
Agree. I'd much rather have a coach that gets the most out of what he has than one that squanders a bunch of talent.
Bama after J. Gibbs now:
Another Josh Jacobs? Georgia HS running back getting late attention from Alabama
And the rich keep getting richer.
Blocking maneuver. Classic $aban.
Hope one of Sanders or Gibbs enjoy the bench if that happens
Stanford has really fallen. I understand the education thing but there team is not very good.
Our RB room:
Pierce-possible big timer but no proof of that. Next year could be big year.
Davis- Health a concern as has been very unlucky. Ball security an issue.
Wright- really a question mark. Would like to know if he’s back to where he was before injury. Not sure he is.
Clement-Kid you like to root for. May need a position switch. Love to see him work at safety.
Cannot understand why we can’t attract a big time running back. No doubt he plays next year as our rb room could be a major concern unless Pierce has a big year. Praying Malik stays healthy.
I wish we could see more of Clement at RB or try him out at a different position. And I we don’t know how good Wright will be yet. But yes I get your point nobody had a secure spot at RB right now.
I don’t think it matters with Bama. They have shown that players are willing to wait their because they no when they get the chance they will make the most of it.
