When it comes to RB recruiting this cycle, and it isn't finished yet but that's besides the point, why do you guys think RIGHT NOW we don't have a commit from a top back? It's not as if we haven't targeted plenty but what are things that you think happened for us to be "scrambling" right now trying to get a pledge from a 2020 back?

Because our OL is inconsistent. Because we have a head coach who's known for dual threat QBs. Because were #65 in the country in rushing currently. And finished #27 last season. #98 in 2017. Because we haven't really featured a primary running back in a long time. Because our top RB this year (Perine) is #92 in the country. Because Mullen isn't known for recruiting or developing NFL RBs.

The top RB recruits want 25-30 touches per game. They want to be the guy. They want to become a top draft pick.

    Need I go on?

We might offer that to the right kid one day, but we don't really look like a top program for that right now. It's probably going to take a top level RB from Florida who has ties to the program, and who wants to stay in state. I thought Bowman might be that guy.

The main thing I disagree with is 25-30 touches a game. Nowadays they don’t want to wear out before they go pro.

Some backs think that way, not all of them. But your thinking is kind of the new wave now with RB's in college

True and I guess they are the exception to your response, but FSU just pulled in two highly rated RB's (not saying they'll stick, but they at least got their verbal). Why can't we?

FSU has produced Dalvin Cook and Davonte Freeman, who are both CURRENTLY very high profile RBs in the NFL. Cam Akers is projected as the #4 RB in the draft.

Closest thing we've had recently is Mike Gillislee. It's been quite a while since UF has developed a true NFL caliber RB. Has there really been once since Fred Taylor? That was so long ago that his son left school in 2016.

Or you could bury your head in the sand. I prefer honesty and imagine the staff doesn't really believe we ran for 5 yards a carry actually while our RBs we being met head on at the LOS.

Is it wrong to want that Gibbs kid more than bowman? All the Percy talk all the time but that kid really does run in a "similar" style. North south with subtle cuts and jab steps at full speed. Maybe I'm a sucker for highlights though. Hate to see that kid go to osu

We got on Gibbs and Parrish late comparatively to other programs, presumably due to our focus on Bowman and Smith at the RB position. In the future, Knox has to be pursuing and be in contact with at least 5 kids. Can’t jump in after sticking out elsewhere late in the game. That is not how the recruiting game works any longer. With social media, he should have connectivity every day

especially at the RB and QB position. Once you're late to the party, more often than not, you're not getting that kid especially if he's a top kid and you're not known for being a great recruiter

What if I told you Gibbs and Parrish would have better College stats than Bowman?

Wouldn't shock me because Clemson is bringing in talent where they'll share the ball. They're deep

This is different but stay with me. A running back should be recruiting UF to be the guy.

Yes, they're deep. He won't get 25-30 touches per game and he's fine with that.

You know....i was thinking that at one point. The opportunity IS there because no matter how much i like Pierce, Davis, Wright, Clement(?), they aren't THAT good where their spot is secure going into next year
