Die, my boy. You and I had many conversations regarding Mullen coming in. During our conversations I was 100% behind everything Mullen and company. Its great to see you've bought in. Are you 100% or fo you still have reservations? Thanks bro

I would say I'm 99.8%. I always leave myself a little wiggle room.

I can’t wait to see what Dexter is going to look like after some time with Savage. Earlier today on Twitter he was claiming recruitment dibs on the Brown commitment lol he must’ve been on him hard this weekend.

They list him at 6’6” 260. That kid gets off the bus with a qb hurry

Oh Aaron Donald pretty much the norm for all DT...let’s only hope.

Either way I like Brown and he’s probably a SDE which allows us room for 2 more DT.

We played a little light inside this past season. It’s always a crap shoot predicting how a kid will develop. 50% give or take end up playing a different position.

So far we've signed two DT past two cycles. We should need some immediate help from JUCOs or transfers. Do we have the depth and eligibility to recruit 3 next cycle and be fine? Normally when you all but miss two cycles in a row it creates some huge problems eventually. How do we get past that and still stay at a championship pace ala Clemson and their stacked DL?

By the way, what leaves me questioning my judgment is that I thought Willie Taggart would be a monster recruiter and CDM would struggle until and unless he proved he could win big. Winning is fueled in large part by recruiting success so in that my fear was he could not get off the ground and reach his potential because other teams would outrecruit us at a significant level and leave us a step behind. It couldn't be more opposite, thankfully. Taggart without his Oregon OC/DC is a mess and Mullen is doing much better than I expected.

Think of Polite when he came in about the same size and weight.

Somebody mentioned Donalds. A college DT may get away with 285 but not many. Brown may end up more like a Polite. We will have to see how much he grows but at this age he and Jachai have very similar measurable. Jachai was actually bigger as a Senior in High School at 245-255 than he was this year at 242. Worked really well with the right coaches as you all remember McElwain trying to play him in the 260’s At DE and even slid him inside at 260 occasionally.

Amazing what a good coaching staff can do with the right philosophy and workout program.

It's hard to predict where these kids will end up 2-3 years down the road at UF after the coaches figure out their best position, Savage gets them, they hit the training table, etc.,. If Polite came in at 250, he actually lost weight over his 4 years while Langham came in at 269 and is now listed at 286. Shuler is listed at 274 and played inside. Other than the 300#s like Clark, Slaton, Conliffe, Campbell that will likely stay inside, 250# DL coming out of HS could end up anywhere on the line.

I believe you on what good coaching can do and CDM&Co proved that. But was Polite actually ever really 250 in HS? Maybe. I have always trusted our roster to provide an accurate weight so when a FR gets listed on roster we see how close his true weight is to his listed HS weight. Often we know what to expect from weights taken during OVs. But I always thought Polite fluctuated between 230 and 245 in college. Yet, I see here that he is listed at 272lbs on the 2016 roster.

It seems so unlikely to me he was 272lbs in 2016 but graduated at 240ish. WTH?

Exactly, there’s no way of knowing when a kid is going to stop developing. Some are done at 15-16 and some are still changing in their early twenties. A list of the top tackles in the nfl would be very interesting. I wonder how many were 300 as 16-18 year olds. My guess would be less much less than half.makes me think of people questioning Bogels size. Tuberville said Ray Lewis was 195 when he recruited him to Miami. He said besides qbs , he really had no idea where a guy was going to eventually play.

Another question is how big do we really want our SSDE to be? Smaller like zuniga? Bigger like carter or ancrum? Or even bigger similar to Bamas DEs?
