    2019 D1Baseball Preseason Top 25
    D1 Baseball Staff - January 14, 2019
For the second time in the five-year history of the rankings, Vanderbilt tops the D1Baseball Preseason Top 25, powered by Louisville Slugger.

The Commodores also started the season ranked No. 1 in the inaugural D1Baseball Top 25 in 2015, and they finished that season as national runner-up. Vandy has ranked in the top 10 in four of the last five preseason rankings; last year it ranked 14th in the preseason, then went on to reach super regionals for the second year in a row. The ‘Dores return loads of premium talent and experience from the 2018 club.

Vanderbilt leads a group of five Southeastern Conference teams inside the top 10, and eight SEC teams in the Top 25 — more than any other conference. LSU starts the season at No. 2, followed by conferencemates Florida (No. 6), Georgia (No. 9), Ole Miss (No. 10), Mississippi State (No. 14), Arkansas (No. 16) and Auburn (No. 22).

To me at least, UGA @ #9 is something of a surprise compared to their norm—

Talked to a dad of one of their players and he was a little surprised too, thinks they have some real question marks

Honestly, that's how I feel about Florida as well. There are some question marks at some key spots. Guess they are following 74Nole's mantra. . ."In Sully We Trust". It hasn't led us wrong so far!

The SWAC at #13 when they finished #21 and lost a bunch of talent. I still find the respect for them odd. Of course I also don't think UF is worthy of #6 as of today. Maybe by May or June.

    Greg—

Got to think SWAC @ #13 is media sentiment for “11’s” last hurrah because I agree with you on their finish and loss of talent—

Either way, pre-season polls are just that—pre-season...

At least the pressure is off of the gators, at least compared to the recent past.

And, as always, SEC is loaded. Playing in the SEC will certainly sharpen your tools and/or expose your flaws.

Big bragging rights if you win this league.

Just looking at the roster.....basically 50% turnover from last year, and 3 of the returnees basically didn't play (McConnell, Milchin, Ruth).

True but new faces will likely only occupy 2-3 positions at most I would think.

    1 OF will be new.
3B and 1B will be new (unless Brady Smith moves to either).

    Then reliever roles.

The questions I think are largely around whether the incumbents rise to the level of their predecessors.

McConnell is the biggest question mark followed by Friday night in my opinion.

Butler is a bit of a question too as he is good but he isn't Michael Byrne yet but Michael Byrne wasn't Michael Byrne at Butler's point in his career either.

There is one SWAC question where Kendall (I think) says he really likes the Parrish-Van Eck duo. Fair enough.

There is one UF question (not by me!) where Kendall says the arms look loaded.

2 of the 3 leftys are Butler and Langworthy. Did they hit the bump much last season?
New Gators fan here so don’t shoot me for my ignorance. I got here as quick as I could!

True, I just consider Brady Mc and to a lesser extent Brady S as new faces since they had such limited play. Kind of see it as 4 returners and 4 newbies for the starting 8.

    apk—

Agree with you—especially to a lesser extent on Brady Smith—I feel like he will rather quickly develop into a veteran player—which should be good for the team and great for the newbies to see—

Yeah, I think Smith puts us at ease about the catching position pretty quickly
