I don’t want to think about the damage it would have done to Florida. Hope it all but spares the Carolinas.

    WOW!!!!

This hurricane just doesn't want to weaken....

The 12:00 advisory showed that it's back UP to a Category 3, with winds of 115 MPH!!

Us here in Florida most definitely dodged a huge bullet this time!!

    Tampa
    Three confirmed tornadoes in NC.

The storm also jogged left and a North Myrtle Beach landing is expected if it doesn't jump back E.

Yikes - I hope it turns back east and doesn't impact our friends @tilly, @Skink and others. If yes, hang in there, y'all!

    YEAH!!

    Hey, guys.... be safe....
That beast is still a Category 2, winds still at 105 MPH..and headed towards Wilmington and Cape Hatteras overnight!

They've had some huge tornadoes as well in that area... New Bern, etc.

Hope y'all are ok there on the coast. We deal with some harsh winter conditions; treacherous for driving at times. Hurricanes & tornadoes, though, are not a thing up here. I lived 1 mile from Tampa Bay in 2004 and we dodged four major storms (Frances & Charlie were close). Never had to deal with the challenges you got, though. Will pray for a turn away from your 'hood.

23 years ago today Fran blasted Wilmington. That is still the worst one I have seen. I had just moved here and had never been through the eye of a storm. I grew up on the gulf and never saw one.

51 weeks ago Florence showed up.
There has been Bertha and Floyd and Matthew and Bonnie too.

But It is worth it to live in a place that you love.

Funny thing was... I used to live in Charlotte Harbor. Just across from Punta Gorda. I was gone by the time Charlie hit PG. But the darn thing reemerged on the Atlantic side and made a beeline ...straight for....Wilmington! [IMG]

Charlie was supposed to come right up into Tampa Bay. That would have been a mess for the Bay area. Instead, he turned East further south and despite the minuscule size, remained a hurricane throughout the state of FL. I was evacc'd and wen to a girlfriend's house further inland. Ended up being much closer to the storm.

Incredible luck our state was essentially spared and so far no major landfall. Man what could have been. Poor Bahamas.
