The roster is posted on floridagators.com
Glad to see Liput listed.
Basically, three second year pitchers, Austin Bodrato, Billy McKay and Cam Weinberger, participated in the fall but have moved on and are no longer with the program. I know McKay is at Polk St but not sure about the other two. Nate Brown, another arm from the same class, did not return in August and is pitching for a JUCO back home in Wisconsin ( and has committed to Arizona for the 2018-19 season).
That's a pretty reasonable and not too damaging amount of attrition, though I remember Brown getting some hype last year.
2018 Baseball Roster
Part of the beast that is the Sully machine is losing some good guys every year
lots of RHP.
still a lot of youth.
good pen of LHP too.
Are some on injured reserve? sitting out this season? Ruth? Milchin? what's the word?
like that we do have several OF / P combos - includes Kirby McMullen from the right side and langworthy, baker and Horvath from the left.
we added speed to the roster too, reportedly.
Horvath would come in last season for defense in the outfield. along w/ Larson, for many games. is Dalton just as good or better as a defensive outfielder - but a better bat, maybe?
1b options - JJ or Bell. Bell provides the lefty option.
will be interesting to see the catcher position unfold. JJ and 3 newcomers.
Sully has targeted dual position kids the last few years, they come in handy
In typical Sully fashion, this is a solid roster. As always, time will bear out its talent.
I look forward to watching them and pulling for them!
Here's wishing good health to all of them and fierce competition to evolve into our opponents lose columns!
Lot more options than last year, almost across the board position wise. And don't think we see some of the offensive droughts.
More questions up the middle, which is always a little scary. But the talent is there. Should be fun
Austin Bodrato is at Santa Fe
Would make for a season with a few less tight games.
Liput was also mentioned in an official GatorsBB tweet this week about which returning starter led the team in some statistic. Can't remember the stat. Either way, can't imagine they would have mentioned Liput if he wasn't returning.
Spent some time reading over that roster and was amazed at the quality and potential!
I've always loved following recruiting and following new player development.
I remember well sitting on the steps of old Walker Auditorium, reading the Alligator and seeing that Coral Gables star linebacker Ralph Ortega committed to Doug Dickie over Auburn...Dickie's first major recruit.
I'm the same way now with UF baseball. Which frosh will emerge for us?
How will Sully maximize the quickness of Brady McConnell and Shane Shifflett?
‘Tis funny, my own evolution as a fan. NOw, just as gung ho about a gator baseball season to get going as football! Love it!
Where y'all been???
That will be the case every year.
