    &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

The 3, 4, 5 innings were played in a mist, play was not stopped and I saw no mistakes due to the wet conditions

Acton is making good stops and throws on some tough chances, not saying he is India but he has improved since fall ball.

Fabian and Young are showing they know how to track a ball, catch and throw to the right base, hard to imagine Fabian is 17 and skipped his senior year of HS ball.

McConnell and Reese are fielding better than Fall Ball.

After a rocky 1st inning McConnell was in the groove, he also made a very nice pick up and throw on a bunt by Reese and was quick to cover 1st on a ball hit behind the bag.

The fielders had about 20-30 minutes fielding pop ups and flies generated by the cannon/gun, I am guessing they were using the late start to get some work on tracking balls with the lights on.

Greenfield played right and Nellie played an inning or 2 in Center

There were about 12-15 folks in the stands, if you were one of them please add to this report (or correct anything you saw differently)

    Per the Apple Memo

and we both know once it starts it will go by in the proverbial blink of an eye.... how does time morph from incredibly slow to way too fast?

Everybody seems to be hitting pretty well.

Now, I am a bit concerned about pitching!

I figured it might go like this: we won’t miss to many opposing bats. Need our fielding to be top notch and get a lot of production at the plate.

In ‘17, we struggled with hitting, but had shut-down pitching. Winning 2-1, 3-2 type games. This season might be more like 10-8 type games.

6 BB’s on the day—Sully’s gonna hold a prayer meeting with our pitchers—

My old rule was any lead off walk in any inning—5 poles (over there and back is one)
Any walk on 4 straight pitches (unless called “put him on” from the HC)—5 poles
    Pitch don’t throw—

don't be, Mace had a strong outing last night and Butler looked good his last trip to the mound, just think about spring trsining and how much tie it takes to get the arms in shape, and who is overseeing their development, the frosh are going to be used a lot in preconference, not everybody will make the first page when the SEC starts

Good points @gatorjjh—as long as our guys are healthy and hit their spots they will be able to compete with anyone—

Remember @gatorbogey, our hitters have been able to now see our pitchers every day—our competition will only see them when we are playing them—:ninja3:

Fabian has a good eye at the plate and rarely goes after a bad pitch, his fielding is very good, McConnell seems to be getting his groove in the field and at the plate, not saying he is ready for SEC prime time but he is where you would expect, the fielding in particular has improved

I would also add this about the pitching. Our hitters at this point have seen our pitchers 5-7 times this spring. Good hitters make adjustments and the more they see the easier it gets. Most teams will only see our pitchers 2-3 times a year with only 4-8 at bats. Compare our hitters seeing our pitchers 15-18 at bats and it makes sense the hitters would be having more success at this stage.

If we count the HBP that makes it up to 8. I would like to think that we are crowding the plate and we aren't off that much either. Might be a little rougher start to this season, but we could finish off strong.

    37—Agreed—

I saw the HBP’s too but I never like to take away an aggressive game from my pitchers—I’m always going to figure that the hitters are crowding the plate—remember, “You’ll never command the outside half if you don’t own the inside half”—Bob Gibson...

I too am a bit worried about pitching but I am not too concerned about missing bats.

Dyson had 51 Ks in 50.1 IP.
Jack had 84 Ks in 81.1 IP.
Tommy had 45 in 62.2 IP.

Dyson and Jack both have 1 K per IP. That isn't terrible. It isn't going to set an NCAA record but it is fine. Tommy clearly pitches to contact more than the others.

I don't know how to look up old seasons on my phone but I would be curious what Singer's and Faedo's and Shore's K/9IP was as a FR.
