LOL.. first off why would the football players get first dibs on the vaccine, and is that an absolute requirement in order to play? that vaccine will not be out until January at best and who knows who gets it first?

UF students (not just football players, but all students), and all public school students broadly, are already basically "forced" to take vaccines before attending.

Review and Approval Procedure » Health Compliance Office » College of Medicine » University of Florida.

While that's the MMR documentation that's required, in theory they could require an approved COVID vaccine. I don't know that they will, as the other guy noted there will surely be an availability issue for many month even after a vaccine is settled on (and students would be far from the high-risk category). By the time fall 2021 rolls around hopefully COVID has finally fizzled out either on it's own - or enough people are voluntarily vaccinated to help move it along. If that's the case my guess is the vaccine is never "required" for attendance. It basically depends on the status of the disease 12 months from now. If the disease is still raging, and vaccines are available, I could see it possibly being temporarily required for UF attendance for 1 or 2 years. I don't think that will happen, but it's not impossible.

We shouldn't have a season because possibly a top team may have a bunch of players sick and miss a game?

There are lots of reasons to not play this year. That's really not one. Safety of the players... Yes. Possibility of losing a game because players are sick...no.

Like it or not, success this year is going to be significantly dependent upon how good the players and school are about following guidelines.

Proven vaccines. The optics on mandating majority black sports teams are not good and will receive a lot of pushback.

Well, I doubt they would push an early vaccine/experimental on just football teams. Indeed it would be a horrible look on many fronts.

I see the requirement for *all* students as a slight possibility, but not going to happen in the next few months. I see that as maybe a fall 2021 possibility, when there could be a vaccine with ample supply. IMO. But it obviously depends on many things, if the virus goes away before then probably no reason to require anything.

You will begin to see a lot of this COVID or not . Under the guise of “it’s a business decision “

You’ll have more players taking the season off refusing to take the vaccine than you will for avoiding covid.

And a little luck. This season is gonna to be for enjoyment only. Anyone touting a covid championship will be laughed at. Talk about an asterisk.

There are NO vaccines for any virus now. Not the flu/hiv etc. and they’ve been around a long time. Why would anyone think there’s going to be one for this virus ? Please educate me if I’m wrong. Seriously

Correct...student athletes will be last on the list given their age and not at risk group.
